Choppy Playback from Handbrake Exports

Post by richardrosenman »

Description of problem or question:

Hello;

I am new to Handbrake and it seems quite powerful.

I am encoding 2K and 4K videos at the moment. I am using the Production Max and Production Standard presets and tweaking those. Most of my settings seem typical as I have enough experience with video compressors.

However, any output from Handbrake plays choppy / stutters. I know this is sometimes due to the player (in my case Quicktime) being underpowered. But lower resolution (720p) tests also play choppy.

I am using Handbrake v1.1.0 on Windows.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong here? Any suggestions to overcome this? Perhaps I could get some help on the settings if I am using the wrong ones?

Thanks,
-Richard

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0):

1.1.0

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update):

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

QuickTime for Windows is not just bad, it's really really really bad at decoding H.264 video. Please try another player (e.g. VLC).

You're right. VLC plays back the MP4 flawlessly. I didn't know Quicktime suffered at x264 playback so badly.

Thank you.

Quicktime for Windows is so bad, Apple stopped updating it.

QuickTime for Windows is still 32bit -- Apple doesn't want us to have a 64 bit Windows library.
