Aspect Ratio of Opening Frames Imposed on Whole Converted Video

Post by akjohnston »

Description of problem or question

I am using Handbrake to convert TV recorded off air. If, for example, the recording starts when a program with a 4:3 aspect ratio is recording, then the whole recorded video is 4:3, even if the main program is 16:9 or something else. I can't find a way to fix this so that each segment of the recording has the right aspect ratio.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable)

Record a program with the opening few minutes in one aspect ratio, and the rest in a different aspect ratio.

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0)

1.0.3, but I don't think this is version-dependent.

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.3 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update)

Windows 7-x64

Error message text or screenshot (If Applicable)

N/A - the output video is perfectly viewable, just with a restricted aspect ratio.

HandBrake Activity Log ***required*** (see How-to get an activity log)

I do not have a log for a program showing this problem. The next time it occurs I will manually re-convert the file and upload a log.
