Repeatable crash on certain Blu Ray image.

Post by ian_m »

Description of problem or question

I have a file rip of one of my Blu Ray disks ripper using DVDFab. File set plays fine and I have had no issues playing my rip.

However when trying to convert to MKV handbrake stops crashes and exits. This is 100% repeatable and even does it on another PC.

I have done loads and loads of Blu ray file rip to MKV with handbrake and never had an issue before.

Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable)

Try to create an MKV of my Blu Ray rip.

HandBrake version (e.g., 1.0.0)

1.0.7

Even tried daily update (Friday 12th Jan) and it does the same.

Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, macOS 10.3 High Sierra, Windows 10 Creators Update)

Windows 10 Creators update (version 1709)

Error message text or screenshot (If Applicable)

Handbrake has stopped working.

Wondering why a BD rip would have bad time stamps on non-chapter borders:
[11:34:42] bd: Playitem 1
[11:34:51] sync: "Chapter 2" (2) at frame 14899 time 55923367
[11:35:23] bd: Playitem 2
[11:35:23] sync: video time went backwards 41 ms, dropped 1 frames. PTS 66591525
[11:35:41] bd: Playitem 3
[11:35:42] sync: video time went backwards 41 ms, dropped 1 frames. PTS 72916519
Valarian is one of the "playlist obfuscation" titles that comes up over on the MakeMKV forum. Are you sure you got the correct play list?

I have tried a few others titles, but there are many, all the same length. Over 400 titles in fact all 2:17:01 in length.

Any idea how I find the correct one ?

MakeMKV and AnyDVD both have code in them specifically to isolate the "main feature". MakeMKV requires you to have Java Runtime (from java.com) installed to make it work. Not sure what AnyDVD uses.

Still, handbrake shouldn't CRASH if it's given a wrong playlist...

Thank you. Starting MakeMKV reports lots of titles are equal to other titles. The first one unique is reported as 00753.mpls.

Re-running Handbrake using 0753.mpls and it runs to completion. Ta. :D
