Understanding Cropping

Sometimes when I load up a file the automatic cropping will be off by one on either the top or bottom. I trust Handbrake's intelligence but it seems really odd to me. This screen shot will give an example:

Using the example above, what is the proper thing to do here? Should I:
a) leave it alone
b) change the top value to 140
c) change the bottom value to 138

I'd set modulus to 2 and leave it alone. Or use the command line interface and set cropping to 139/141 :)

Interesting that you point out the modulus setting. I've read a lot of different opinions on that.

That aside, is it normal for a top and bottom to have different values? It would seem to me they should be the same.

It happens from time to time. I've seen a title where the image wasn't even centered, lazy mastering.
