Should I used anamorphic?

Post by Larry. »

Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible:
Should I use anamorphic when I like to keep the original aspect ratio and black bars?

Also what setting should I use None , Automatic or Loose?

Just confused due to the outdated sources on the internet which refer back to older versions of handbrake.
So far I've just been using automatic.

Tell us about your environment. What version of HandBrake? What version of Windows are you running. etc.
Lastest version of Handbrake 1.0.7 GUI 64bit
Windows 10 64bit

Re: Should I used anamorphic?

Post by Woodstock »

No, set your crop to "custom" and use zeros for all values. That will retain the letterboxing.

Your source does not use anamorphic, so handbrake should not be applying it.

I've only got 3 options None, Automatic and Loose. Also I already have my all values set to 0 in custom.

Thanks for the reply.

Anamorphic really doesn't directly cause or remove letterboxing. And Automatic won't add anamorphic if it isn't in the source.

In this case, you're already preserving the letterbox through the crop settings.

so should I leave automatic or none? Because like you said its overided by my custom crop anyway.

Hope they update this with a custom option if thats the case.

thanks for the reply.
