After 2 days of trying to figure out why Handbrake keeps on crashing either half way through or right at the start. Tried to fix the FPS issues from Shadowplay.
Tried:
- starting as admin
- getting 50gig of free space
- increasing page file to 16gig
- messing with all kind of video settings
it turns out that Bicubic (OpenCL) seems to crash the software. As soon as i use the other one it runs fine. It takes forever but it works and iam pleased with the results. Still wanted to let you know that there might be an issue. Using a Geforce 970 GTX and that should support OpenCL just fine.
Here is what the Log says:
[14:37:03] CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
[14:37:03] - Intel microarchitecture Sandy Bridge
[14:37:03] - logical processor count: 4
[14:37:03] OpenCL device #1: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce GTX 970

Iam wondering about this:
[14:37:03] - supported: no
Why is the most prominent GPU not supported?

Re: Bicubic (OpenCL) Scaler crashes software
The OpenCL bicubic scaler never worked well, as you can see. It will be removed in the next version.
The scaler takes few cpu cycles (in comparison to the video encoder), there wasn't a noticeable improvement with the OpenCL version.

Re: Bicubic (OpenCL) Scaler crashes software
On a system like that, it could actually be slower. That said, Nvidia GPU's were never supported due to quirks in their OpenCL implementation. It only really ever saw improvement on low-end AMD hardware which is less of an issue these days.
The original author never stuck around to maintain the OpenCL patch, so we've binned it as more often than not, when it does work, the GPU is slower than the CPU (and worse quality to boot)

Alright, thanks for the info. And indeed when it worked for 30-40% it took ages.
