Handbrake compressed files can't be used in Sony Vegas

Post by InfernoKun »

Whenever I try to drag and drop/import a file I just compressed in Handbrake, Sony Vegas doesn't accept it. I've tried previous files I have compressed on my old build and those files still import to Vegas, that was on version 0.10.1.6962.

I've downloaded the version I used on my old build and even encoding with that version doesn't let my add files to Sony Vegas. I don't know if it's a problem with Sony Vegas' ability to accept video encoded by 10 series cards or what. Any settings I could try to fix this?

Old Build:
AMD Athlon x4 750k @3.8GHz
MSI GTX 760 4GB
Handbrake v0.10.1.6962
Windows 10 Pro
16GB RAM

New Build:
AMD Ryzen 7 1700x @3.4GHz
MSI GTX 1070 8GB
Handbrake v0.10.1.6962 & latest version
Windows 10 Pro
16GB RAM

My first guess is that it chokes on the audio; MP3 in MP4 is not supported by many players or devices.

Since your audio is AAC in the first place, you should be using AAC Passthru in HandBrake.

Ahh.. alright. Well I've been using MP3 because when I use AAC, the audio would come out a little distorted even if I increase bit-rate etc. MP3 fixes that issue, any way to fix it for AAC?

The AAC encoder used on Windows is not as high quality as the Mac encoder, sadly. We hope to rectify this but it probably won't be in the immediate future. You'll either want to stick to MP3 or search the forum for how to compile HandBrake with the FDK AAC encoder yourself. We can't distribute such a build because of licensing issues.

Admittedly, I didn't read up before writing. Rodeo is correct: since your source is already in AAC format, you will want to passthru this track without re-encoding at all.
