Handbrake encode after Adobe Premier

Post by kachijs »

Handbrake version 1.0.7
Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.0 (Build 9.0.0 (247))

After I have done editing video in Adobe Premier i output as mp4: video (h264), audio (aac). After export i playback the file and audio/video is fine (tried on VLC, PotPlayer, MPC and Theo web player). Then i try to encode video file to lover resolution and audio bitrate. After handbrake has done the encode i playback the file: video is fine, but the audio is noticeably worse. When i do the same and output audio in MPEG - handbrake encodes audio file just fine (aac).

Its just my setup or this is global?

Thanks… is this the good or the bad audio? Also, can we see the log for the other case please?

Just pass the audio through as you are not really saving much space by converting it.

This is for my client. He wants to encode audio also. In the end i'll create adaptive VOD.

seems like this is one way to go. But is this is a known problem?

Yes, our AAC encoder is crap. Unless you use HandBrake for Mac, which can use Apple's AAC encoder (because it ships as part of the operating system).

So yes, you should use Premiere to encode the AAC, and use AAC Passthru in HandBrake.

Also, for better video quality, you should use an intermediate codec in Premiere, such as ProRes, instead of H.264, since you'll re-encode the video to H.264 in HandBrake. The temp files will be huge, but you'll eventually end up deleting them (once you checked that the re-encoded files are good, of course).

Cannot find ProRes in my list.
