Handbrake does not allow Windows Media Player or 'Movies & TV' to start

Post by Zeebastian »

Please detail your question or problem in as much detail as possible:
Handbrake does not allow Windows Media Player or 'Movies & TV' app to start

Stopping Handbrake allows these players to open normally.
Priority is 'Below normal'.
Have set Affinity to 4 cores and 2 cores. No effect with either.
Have stopped all other applications except Handbrake. No effect.
Have rebooted system and cleared memory. No effect.

VLC Player works fine and starts as expected.

Something with Handbrake is interfering with normal Microsoft media player startup.

Tell us about your environment. What version of HandBrake? What version of Windows are you running. etc.
HB - 1.0.7 (latest build)
Windows 10 Home
i7-4790 / 3.60 GHz
16 Gig ram
64 bit

If there was any exception or error displayed, please copy it and paste it here:
No error in Handbrake. Only occurs when Handbrake is performing tasks.

Do you mean those players can't play HandBrakes output?

HandBrake in no way interacts with either of those applications.

No. The applications themselves fail to start while Handbrake is running processes.

Whereas the VLC Player opens and plays fine as expected under the same conditions.

Sounds like you have a system level issue. HandBrake won't be the root cause of this. It doesn't call into or use those apps in any way. it's a standalone application.

My guess is it'll be related to D3d or the display drivers. If updating display drivers doesn't help, I'd suggest trying the Microsoft forums to see if anyone can help there.
