Hi there.
I confess, I always had a tough time getting along with anamorphic settings.
Anyway, I managed to avoid headaches using the "strict" option, which helped me maintain the original width and height of my TVrips.
Now, without strict option anymore (I'm using 1.0.3 64 bit version), I use Automatic and Modulus 2, but, sometimes, the results are not what I want.
In this example that I'm working with right now, although I'm using the recommended setting to maintain the original values, the output shows me a different width. Why is that and what can I do to always maintain the old "strict" setting?
Regards.

Re: Anamorphic issues
What output width do you think you should have?
This looks correct to me. Are you trying to get distortion or resizing?

Re: Anamorphic issues
Ok, I'm going to need some clarifications...
The width from the TS file is 720p, shouldn't the output be the same?
Why does the output say 1041 when the input is 720?
That's why I began by saying I never quite understood this anamorphic stuff...

Re: Anamorphic issues
You're confusing storage resolution and display resolution, and missing that you've selected to crop 2 pixels off each side of the video.
storage * PAR = display
(720 - 2*2) * 16/11 = 1041
storage * PAR = display
(720 - 2*2) * 16/11 = 1041

Yes, I was considering the 4 pixels crop, but I didn't know about that equation... it makes more sense now.
Is there an explanation (text or video) about anamorphic that you could suggest me?
Anyway, thank you for your time in helping me understand this better.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphic_format and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphic_widescreen have a lot of good content, although they do focus on the old ways of doing it with distorted optical path hardware instead of just bits and math.

Re: Anamorphic issues
Thanks.
I understand the concept of anamorphic formats and aspect ratios, what I would like to understand better is the various options of Handbrake, preferably with examples like the one you gave above.
But now I know that I can keep this preset as it is, which is a big help.

Yep, I'll be waiting for that.
