Errors after video conversion.

Post by DiGi_Valentine »

Hi there.

The short version of the issue -
I'm having a problem with video's after conversion. Activity log of my most recent attempt to convert a video can be downloaded from here:
https://app.box.com/s/0u03igc4rgek2a0exy9br0i42cenxibu

The more detailed version of the issue -
I'm using the most recent version (version 1.0.3) of Handbrake on Windows 10.

I am recording raw game footage in MP4 format (i am also receiving raw game footage from friends in MP4 format), but the file sizes are too large. I use Handbrake to convert it to a smaller file size.
When i load the raw footage in to Handbrake and convert it in to a smaller MP4 Handbrake will complete converting the video but i get this message at the bottom of the Handbrake window:
"Queue Finished with errors or cancellations detected".

If i attempt to load the converted video in to Sony Vegas the video won't load and i will receive this message from Vegas:
"None of the files dropped on Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum could be opened."

The thing is, you can still open the converted video in VLC/Windows Media Player and watch it. It plays back just fine. But it's failing to load in to Vegas.

I attempted to convert an FLV file to MP4 with Handbrake and that worked fine. I was able to load that converted video in to Sony Vegas without an issue. The problem seems to just lie in raw MP4 game footage being converted in to smaller MP4 files. That's the only time i seem to get the Handbrake error message and it's inability to load in to Vegas.

I searched online trying to find if anybody else has had a similar issue and i haven't found anything.
This issue is greatly hindering my work as i need to load these files in to Vegas for editing.
Can anybody here help? I'd really appreciate the assistance in sorting this out.

Thanks for your time ~

Looks like a bug

Code: Select all

[mp4 @ 000001bb513280e0] Application provided invalid, non monotonically increasing dts to muxer in stream 1: 1464239 >= 1464239
Would it be possible for you to provide a sample I can use to reproduce and analyze the problem?

Hi! Thanks for the quick response.

A sample of the video? Sure.

This is the raw captured footage before a Handbrake conversion:
https://app.box.com/s/lvjxt254xagw17q05e5xmqlm6g5ra07n

And in case you need it, this the same video after a Handbrake conversion (with the error):
https://app.box.com/s/k4jlozpy74v4keqik7b0okraazqn1i40

Hope that helps in getting to the bottom of this.

I can't seem to reproduce your results. I don't get the "non monotonically increasing dts" error.

It did result in the same error, yes. The video i just uploaded was from the same batch recording, despite it being different to the one in the log. They were all recorded in the same session, same settings, etc.

Would you like me to provide a log of this test 2 video too? It'll likely tell you the same results, but if you'd like to be 100% sure then i can. Let me know.

I'm not too tech savy so i don't understand what bug you found in the log.
Does this mean it's likely an isolated issue due to only my PC in some way?

A log would be nice, just for 100% certainty.

It's possible there is some platform specific difference. I'm running on Linux while you are on Windows. I'll see if I can fire this up on my win10 laptop.

Sure thing.

Here's a log for the test 2 video:
https://app.box.com/s/4zyjgpmldikxjn2jt5r8led08l4k2snq

For what it's worth, i did send a converted video to a friend who is also on Windows 10. He uses Sony Vegas too and he said the converted video i sent him wouldn't load in to Vegas for him either. I forgot to mention it in my initial post. Not sure if it helps at all or not.

So, I discovered it is a platform specific problem. On windows the audio encoder you are using (lame) outputs an extra packet of data for some reason.

If you don't absolutely require mp3 audio, you can work around it by using a different audio encoder until I can chase down why this happens.

To my knowledge, Vegas doesn't open h264 files with mp3 audio.

This was it! This was the issue. I just converted the video again using 'auto passthru' instead of the MP3 codec and it worked! Vegas was able to load the converted video perfectly!

I'm so incredibly happy right now. Thank you so much for helping me with this issue. I've been going out of my mind for the last few days and this has really sorted everything out for me.
I can't thank you guys enough! ~

Another reason for hobbyists to stick with the default audio encoders...
But remember to use constant frame rate for Vegas.
