There is a minor, but a bit annoying problem in the windows gui (dunno, if this is true for macs too, cannot check it)
* if you start HB (>=1.0.1) you now end up in the "open..." dialog automatically.
* if you cancel this dialog (I prefer to use drag&drop for instance, or sometimes you want to select a non-default preset before you open the file) you end up in the normal main window, but the preset list is disabled (the preset menu is disabled too).
So, I think, somebody forgot the enable_window() call during the cancel button handling.

I think this is by design, as you need to load a source before you can change settings.
