Encode on any file on this one DVD stops at 99.9%

Post by mkelley »

Guys, I've been using Handbrake for over a decade now, and am pretty familiar with it. I've encoded 100's of discs with no issues at all.

So, using the very latest version (checked) I have a DVD set that is itself around 10 years old that I ripped to my hard drive with no issues and plays fine from there. I fired up Handbrake and no matter what file I pick off that DVD it gets hung up at 99.9% and stops there forever (I left it overnight just to see with no luck). These are small files, too -- not more than 5 to 8 minutes long.

Windows 8.1 and, as I've said, no issues with hundreds of other discs prior to this one (which is a commercial Disney one that has no trouble playing or being ripped, using AnyDVD). I don't know what else to do at this point so any suggestions would be appreciated.

First you could try a nightly build to see if that works.

Second, you could try re-ripping your disks with a different ripper, like makemkv.

I'll see about a different ripper but I think it's correctly ripped (can't imagine, with a disc this old, that any other build would help though).

I also tried the freeware/upgrade paidware [Removed Dubious Product Reference] Video Convertor and it handled the files with no problem (although the freeware version won't handle the individual ones but puts it all in one big video file). So I may just go ahead and bite the bullet and pay for the version that rips the DVD (sigh -- I hate to do this for just ONE disc, but I really need these videos so I can watch them -- LOL, I don't even have a DVD player anymore :>).

If you try makemkv it will rip your titles to MKV files which can be fed into handbrake.

The nightly build is free to try :)

Makemkv appears to be working -- it's going through and making those MKV files and I really don't need to run them through Handbrake (no need for any compression per se -- I mostly just wanted to convert to MKV so I can play them on my media players. I really *hate* physical media <g>).

So, thanks.
