Problems after upgrading to 10.0.3

Post by phazed »

Upgrade from 9.3 to 10.0.3 yesterday. Ripped a DVD last week no probs it just got the automatic cropping wrong so after upgrading, I tried to do it again. It appears to do its thing but the end resulting file is corrupted. There is terrible sound but the picture is 80% black with little green and red blocks. Everything is set at default. I uninstalled and tried again but same result. No idea how to proceed.

Handbrake 10.0.3 and Windoze 7

No error message it appeared to complete normally.

You need to decrypt you DVD first. Try anydvd or makemkv.

I never, ever, needed to do that when I was using the v9.3 of Handbrake. Is this a new thing? HB always ripped my DVD's beautifully to mp4 with no worries. And i'll say it again, I don't understand.

It used to work, it no longer works...

What is missing from my original question to make one of us (I think it's you), to misunderstand so badly?

HB can use some external ways to decrypt some DVD's however this is not supported.

You may have been using one of these ways in the past.

Your best bet is to rip the disc first, then encode with HB.

The name of the third-party DLL that enables decryption, and even how the supplier of it (Videolan.org) distributes it, has changed over the years since your previous version of handbrake was published. It's no longer supplied "just" by installing VLC.

This and other reasons are why it isn't supported here. While it works fine 90% of the time, the 10% of the time it doesn't isn't the fault of handbrake, but of the DLL, and the authors of the DLL aren't here.

So, short of it is, For the last decade, you've been using another tool or library and forgotten about it.

We don't support that, don't recommend it so you really ought not to use it.

Most folks have moved onto MakeMKV or AnyDVD and the likes.

You mean 0.93 to 0.10.3?

Wow, that is a massive jump in versions and many changes in between each of those versions...
