[Fixed] You must first scan a source (dxtory)

Post by Gruntster »

Hello, I have been using Handbrake for nearly a year now along with Dxtory to record gameplay in a video game and have had no problems with handbrake until now. Dxtory saves it to an .avi file. Most of what I have read the past 2 days of googling refers to ripping dvd's which I am not doing. When I select my source file the scan indicator at the bottom very briefly flashes on like it is scanning but diappears very quickly. I have tried sitting and waiting for awhile but that doesn't help. It says ready at the bottom of the GUI in less than a second after starting scan. So after I select a destination for the file and click start, I get the message "you must first scan a source and setup your job before adding to the queue". I have uninstalled and re-installed Handbrake multiple times with no effect, same problem. I have changed no settings between when it used to work fine and now.

The version of Handbrake I am using is 10.2.7286 64 bit version. I am running windows 7 Ultimate.

the error message I get is "you must first scan a source and setup your job before adding to the queue"

in addition, after selecting the file to scan nothing shows up in the drop down title box to select but the source shows what i want to scan on the GUI.

Did you try the HandBrake download page? Where it says... nightly?

Oh, and you might want to consider that handbrake is a non-commercial concern, and there isn't 24/7 support people here just waiting for your message.

This error:
[09:34:57] ffmpeg_title_scan: Unsupported color space
says that the file can't be decoded. That is why it was suggested to try a Nightly Build, but that might not fix it - the file has information in it that can't be read.

I'm sorry Woodstock the frustration is getting to me, I appreciate the help. I installed the nightly just now and get the error no valid sources or titles found.

I have not changed any settings from when it used to work and am doing everything the same. They are avi files recorded using dxtory in a game and I never had a problem before now. :(

libavformat can't determine the colorspace of the input, there's nothing we can do to fix it unfortunately. Maybe if you have a short sample of the source? (my backlog of bad sources is quite long, who know when I'll get to take a look, but another developer might)

How about you record a 3-second sample and upload it to Dropbox or similar? Pick a cool game :)

hope this works, never have used dropbox. And as far as the game being cool is concerned it is a very old 2D top down shooter called subspace/continuum that came out in 1995 :p And yes I have been playing it since then.

Seems like this should work, as libav has a dxtory decoder.

@Gruntster, did this stop working when you last upgraded HandBrake or just for recent videos (same HandBrake)? Have you recently upgraded dxtory? Are there any settings in dxtory that you may have changed?

Upon further review, it's quite possible that a feature in the video stream is not yet implemented in the libav dxtory decoder. Feeding the provided sample to avconv (11.3) produces this warning, triggered by https://github.com/libav/libav/blob/025 ... #L135-L139:

Code: Select all

[dxtory @ 0x7fefa1808000] 24 slices for 2560x1600 is not implemented. Update your Libav version to the newest one from Git. If the problem still occurs, it means that your file has a feature which has not been implemented.
[dxtory @ 0x7fefa1808000] If you want to help, upload a sample of this file to ftp://upload.libav.org/incoming/ and contact the libav-devel mailing list.
So I've taken it up with libav's developers. Naturally, they want the sample so we'll see where this goes.

dxtory had an update that I installed on 8/15 and the videos that I am currently trying to encode were taken on 8/30. unfortunately I don't have any of my older unencoded videos still on my computer. As far as the Handbrake update is concerned I can't answer that as I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times in the past couple of days trying to fix this problem.

It appears that certain more common resolutions work and somewhat arbitrary ones don't, verified on dxtory versions ~1 year old even. While we continue to investigate, try picking a different resolution in dxtory.

I suppose I could but the resolution has never been an issue, plus the videos I have are the last 2 league finals matches of the season in a best of 3. I won't be recording again until the next season starts in a month or 2 :( Alot of people are waiting on me to post these :) I greatly appreciate the help. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgl1Z3 ... u1c0-J0MoQ

Definitely record them. A fix is already in the works for libav/avconv but it probably won't land in HandBrake for awhile yet. Can give you pointers on the former when the patch is committed.
