H.265 Optimise Video Issue

Post by blumi »

Hi,
did some tests with the H.265 codec and Handbrake 0.10.2.7286

I did different runs with same settings, did only change the optimise video settings from ultra fast to slow.

Filesize and time which is needed to encode depends on the settings.

Here some results from a 91 minute animation video (video only) with a filesize of 17,9GB.
All runs are done with RF=18

Optimise video setting:
medium -> filesize = 2,53GB
fast -> filesize = 2,46
faster -> filesize = 4,10GB
superfast -> filesize = 3,25GB
Ultrafast -> filesize = 3,28GB

What I do not understand, why is the filesize with the "faster" setting bigger than the "superfast" setting?

Who can help or explain that to me, thanks.

Interesting, why no slow, slower and veryslow?

If there is no hurry, I would just use veryslow and set merange to 32 (instead of the default 57).

You can check what the presets set: https://x265.readthedocs.org/en/default/presets.html

I'll say some settings are turned on that require more bits.

I did some runs, very slow did take a few days when I remember right.
Is there no encoding time in the logfile?
I did some calculating with the frames and the average fps to get the encoding time.

slow-> filesize = 2,43GB
slower -> filesize = 2,28
very slow -> filesize = 2,27

How to set merange to 32 ?
Do I have to use the extra options field for this?

Because the constant quality setting isn't quite the same across different speed presets.

If you followed the forum rules we'd be able to show you this, but since you don't want to you'll have to take our word for it.
