Is there something that could be interesting in API 1.16? (Beside HEVC)

Does it run on Win10 if it doesn't have a monitor plugged in? That's been a complaint - no monitor, Win10 turns it off.

Yes it runs headless on Windows 10 as long as the iGPU is enabled with driver installed.

I guess I should commit HEVC so that people can play with it. If you guys are lucky, commit tomorrow (but I guess it may take longer for s55 to roll out a snapshot anyway).

encqsvInit: BFramesMax 2

Is this something I can enable/disable or adjust manually?

It's basically GopRefDist - 1, as as such in controlled by the gop-ref-dist option.

Looks like the software implementation got some much needed love.

Doesn't make much difference in the short term as we already have HEVC encode support, and it'll take me a while to detect and implement some of the other new features.

HEVC works poor in Handbrake via Quicksync. Some options doesn't work like async-depth, playback of the encoded video runs choppy, Handbrake reports "finished with xx errors" after encoding, encoding time very slow compared to QSVEncC from rigaya, quality is worse too.

Re: Quicksync on Skylake

Are these errors with QSV decoding enabled or disabled? There are known issues when QSV decoding is enabled and there is no crop & scale, which will be fixed eventually.

Either way, feel free to post bug reports on the forum :)

"finished with xx errors" is gone but that's it. Seeking of these HEVC encoded videos are very slow. Encoding is very slow as well. 80 fps with Handbrake and 160 fps with QSVEncC on TU7. And all advanced settings might not work. When I use async-depth=4 the log says async-depth=5, trying target-usage=4 with Speed in the GUI caused a freeze. Completely unusable in this state.

Here is an attempt to convert a video, Handbrake doesn't react for some reason. It stopped at 00,26%.

Re: Quicksync on Skylake

Same with TU4. Another anomaly: TU4 runs faster than TU7 in Handbrake. Seeking of these videos are very slow, I have to wait 10 seconds.

QSVEncC does the job with 150 fps and instant seeking.

The 60 fps wall is probably due to hardware-accelerated decoding not being enabled for some reason.

I have an idea about the seeking issue. What happens if you demux HandBrake's output to an HEVC elementary stream, then mux it back to MP4 with the same tool you're using to mux QSVEncC's .hevc output, is seeking smooth then?

I noticed Handbrake is limited to CQP for HEVC unlike AVC where it uses the better ICQ bitrate mode.

That's a limitation of the QSV HEVC encoder, not HandBrake. Support for ICQ is runtime tested to determine its availability on a per-encoder basis.

As Intel says:
HW Accelerated HEVC Encode supports only CQP, CBR, VBR and ICQ rate control methods.

ICQ works fine as long as the app support it like QSVEnc.

For some reason our code failed to detect it as available then. Maybe MFXVideoENCODE_Query is lying to us, wouldn't be the first time.

I may have a test build for you to try later today or tomorrow.

Test build will have to wait a little longer, but will be coming.

Also, did you try the demux-remux workaround to see if it fixes seeking?
