different configurations and default settings bring different performance/quality/file size,
like QSVEnc uses GOP of 240 where HandBrake - 32,different CQP details, TargetKbps, MFX_EXTBUFF_CODING_OPTIONs and so on,
each solution has the own consideration in mind, so we should not evaluate performance and only, hope this make sense now.

ICQ story will be fixed , thanks for the info,
fine-tuning for HEVC support is a permanent process :)

I've tried tried this all, this is not the reason for the huge difference. There is a big performance (and stability) issue on Handbrake side.

I would check if Handbrake really uses TU7 on Skylake HEVC when it is used and log confirms it, TU7 isn't faster than TU4. 90 fps is the limit not matter what settings I use, it should go to 150 fps with VBR TU7. ICQ mode goes over 200 fps in QSVEnc with TU7.

Hi all, I have a similar issue on my Skylake Core-i7 6700K with QSV enabled.
The compression stops with the message "ASSERT: Sync failed"
Happens 100% of the time
This is the log I have : http://pastebin.com/DErdSw53
Can someone help on this ?
Thanks

DukeMlFr63, can you try:
- update your driver to have >4300
- check if removal of resize would help ?

The freeze issue with HEVC doesn't seem to appear with Quicksync decoding enabled, and runs faster. Speed is on par with QSVEnc.

There is still no ICQ support, only CQP and seeking of HEVC QS converted videos remains slow, 10 seconds mostly.

Obviously they are not interested anymore. Wasted effort from me.

DukeMlFr63:
I was getting the ASSERT: Sync failed error too with everything until I unchecked "Create Chapter Markers" under the "Chapters" tab.

Grr… do you have the log for one of these encodes with the asserts? I'm curious which driver is installed.

At least I figured out why seeking doesn't work with QSV-encoded HEVC files. Not sure it'll be an easy fix, still looking into how to solve the issue.

Seeking should hopefully be fixed in the next nightly (24 hours or so from now, I think).
