Best Constant Quality (Q) setting for H.265?

Post by falkor »

Since Handbrake has supported H.265 for a while now is anyone able to confirm the equivalent to Q20 for H.264 when encoding a low resolution DVD for H.265? I guess it would be a number near Q25 - anyone please confirm?

Sure that's a reasonable setting. Still depends on user preferences.

I did some tests tonight and I think I'm going more with Q22 now as being the same as H.264 Q20.

We've looked into this before and there may not be any direct connection -- it will be different depending on your source.

I use 22 and for cartoons/anime you can go up to 26. As mduell said, depends on user preferences.

Is H.265 ready to use or still for testing and buggy?

Do you only change Video codec from H.264 to H.265 and the Quality to compare your results
