stuttering

Post by daaceking »

Hello

I am having issues with recent releases of movies where the output video stutters. I initially used version 0.9.9 and the film was frozen. It was fixed when all I did was feed the bluray disc as opposed to a lossless file equivalent into handbrake. Recently I wanted a copy of it on my recently acquired tablet so using the handbrake encoded working copy, I reencoded the working handbrake copy using version .10. I also encoded malificent too. Both copies are stuttering on the device and also on my PC with vlc. I am on my phone currently so have trouble providing URLs but I did submit a bug report for frozen with logs attached. Thanks in advance

Without those logs, you're shooting blanks.
Need your system/hw info for your devices also.

HandBrake has exited.

pc hw is mentioned in the logs [note the cpu upgrade but the issue still existed prior] tablet is hp slate 10. slow as anything but the video playback is decent. i got samples from blender in 1080p 30fps high bitrate and it doesn't have any issues.

Why are you forcing a constant framerate?

Since you're scaling to 1280 width, there should be no issues with excessive peak bitrates on portable devices.
To be sure, mine all run at crf 23-24. Might give it a try.

Where did the source files come from?

1920 x cropped H.264 video with AAC audio is an odd source combination.

Reading is fundamental mduell. The source for the tablet jobs was the transcode from the disc that he did the first. I don't see how you could miss that since he put it in red at the top of the logs.

Very odd choice indeed to encode from an encode. Definitely not recommended.

i did aac for compatibility. tablets can't exactly read dolby natively i presume. for pc, again for better compatibility [& compression, i'm using FDK]

i didn't use the disc for the tablets again because it seemed unneccessary since the quality was going to be lower.

the movies are constant frame rate - handbrake help says there are some movies which are variable framerate. these aren't so the setting shouldn't matter in this instance
