Colors a Little Washed Out on MP4 Conversion

Post by GeorgeIoak »

Hopefully someone can provide some good advice for some settings adjustments. I have a large library of children's shows recorded from OTA. The shows are animations and I have under the video tab x264 Tune set to animation. The TS files are ~3GB for a half hour show. I played a little with the settings and am getting ~775MB which is a nice reduction in size but I'd like to possibly get a better picture and am willing to sacrifice storage space. My thoughts are if I can get a good enough conversion I can delete the original TS files and only keep the MP4 files which are able to play on any device.

I'm running 0.10.0

Hard to suggest ways to tune something without seeing what you're doing now... Please post an encode log for one of the files.

Almost every complaint about washed out colors turns out to be the fault of the playback software/hardware or poorly calibrated monitor. There are several players out there that do not respect colorimetry flags embedded in the file.

So,
1. Please supply an activity log so we can look for the unexpected.
2. Are you viewing the video on the same monitor before and after encoding?
3. What software/hardware are you using for playback?

I was playing the file on the same system and monitor using VLC

Here's the last encoding log I just tested:
