Trying to Compress Large MP4 File...new user

Post by fastporsh996 »

Hi all,

I am new to using Handbrake, just downloaded it earlier today actually. I am trying to compress some very large MP4 files that I've recorded from my television (using a Hauppauge PVR device)...currently 2 hours of footage is roughly 8-10 GB as an MP4, and that is too large! I was wondering if Handbrake could help me compress these down to something more manageable, but when I follow the steps here http://blogs.it.ox.ac.uk/adamweblearn/2 ... handbrake/, I get some kind of encoding error. See the below Encode Log:

Can anyone help me? Is it a problem that I am trying to convert from MP4 to MP4? I'm not sure if I should use a different format, really I only want to be able to play these videos on a computer (from hard disk) which explains why I want to minimize on space. Thanks for the help everyone.

Do you have permission to open a file in the destination directory? The destination is set to "Atletico vs. Chelsea, UCL Semifinal, 1st Leg COMP" (no extension, no path), so it will try to create the file in the current directory, which is PROBABLY the program directory.

Wow that was a very simple error. Works like a charm and went down from 8.5 GBs down to 3 GBs! Thanks a lot!
