AVCHD to mp4 problem

Post by pgg911 » Mon Oct 27, 2014 6:19 am

Have just started with Handbrake and successfully encoded several AVCHD
files to mp4 files with no problems. However for a couple of others of
these AVCHD files I am not getting any video. That is, the AVCHD file is
being encoded into an mp4 file that has no video with it - just the audio.
I can see nothing wrong with these source AVCHD files - they play video and
audio just fine and are from a batch of files that were recorded at the
same time on the same camera and handbrake encoded the others with no
problems. Any suggestions?

ps. I have encoded this particular AVCHD file to mp4 more than several times now and am getting the same result every time: ie an mp4 file but with no video. I just tried it on another file and it encoded a mp4 with video no problem.

How about an encode log where it does work, and where it doesn't work?

0.9.9 is near its end of life.
Try a nightly build.
If no luck, post the MediaInfo properties along with the logs Smithcraft requested.

ok sorry SC - coming right up.

musicvid - thanks - what's a nightly build? and i'm not exactly sure what MediaInfo properties you are referring to... both are AVCHD Video (.mts) files. both recorded on the same device (Canon Legria) within a couple of days of each other. The one that worked is 17.4MB. The one that won't is 34.3MB. Sorry if i have misunderstood what you are referring to - I'm new to this side of things.

here's the log for one the worked:

musicvid - thanks - what's a nightly build? and i'm not exactly sure what MediaInfo properties you are referring to... both are AVCHD Video (.mts) files. both recorded on the same device (Canon Legria) within a couple of days of each other. The one that worked is 17.4MB. The one that won't is 34.3MB. Sorry if i have misunderstood what you are referring to - I'm new to this side of things.

here's the log for one the worked:

Code: Select all

[21:25:21] * destination
[21:25:21] + C:\Users\Phillip\Desktop\testinghb\29a.mp4
here's the encode log for one that didn't work (same one as before but another run):

Code: Select all

[10:30:16] * destination
[10:30:16] + C:\Users\Phillip\Desktop" -f mp4 -w 1920 --loose-anamorphic --modulus 2 -e x264 -q 20 --vfr -a 1 -E faac -6 dpl2 -R Auto -B 160 -D 0 --gain 0 --audio-fallback ffac3 -m --x264-preset=veryfast --x264-profile=main --h264-level=4.0 --verbose=1

ok thanks musicvid.

got a solution to the problem another way.

handbrake has trouble with encoding or won't encode at least a AVCHD file that is made up of sections of that have been selected from a larger file and then stuck together into one smaller file.

thanks for your time

That's correct. They need to be joined with the utility that came with your camcorder, or a program that corrects indexing. Concatenation is hit-or-miss with long-GOP source.
