handbrake abort with mkv file (read error)

Post by tucobenedito1 »

I have been happily encoding discs with makemkv and handbrake for quite a while and I have not encountered issues. I use an external Blu-Ray drive. A couple weeks ago I purchased a replacement desktop computer. Since then I have been encountering issues where most discs I encode with makemkv encounter sync issues with handbrake (specifically where the number of actual frames is different than expected). The full encode and scan logs are posted, but it appears the relevant encode log messages are:

[matroska,webm @ 000000000212f080] Read error at pos. 5747557181 (0x15694c33d)
[16:26:15] reader: done. 1 scr changes
[16:26:23] work: average encoding speed for job is 15.856359 fps
[16:26:23] sync: got 30814 frames, 161710 expected
[16:26:23] render: 30814 frames output, 0 dropped and 0 duped for CFR/PFR
[16:26:23] render: lost time: 0 (0 frames)
[16:26:23] render: gained time: 0 (0 frames) (0 not accounted for)

I initially thought the issue was with the external Blu-Ray drive, but I do not see the issue when encoding the same discs my old desktop and the same external Blu-Ray drive. So, I now think it is due to my new desktop, but that does not make a lot of sense to me. Both desktops run the same version of Windows 8.1 (patches and all) and the same version of makemkv and handbrake (I have tried both the latest nightly as well as 0.9.9), so the obvious software differences are not relevant (I think). The video plays fine in VLC.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the issue is?

Thank you for the help!
