Hello. New to Handbrake, so apologies if this is a very basic request! I've tried searching the forums, but haven't found an exact match and, to be honest, the threads are often beyond my experience. Trying to do a basic conversion from a wmv file (created via windows movie maker) to mp4 for ipad. I'm running windows 7. The final result is always blank - but with audio ok. Hope you can help. Many thanks!

You supplied only a scan log. Please supply and encode log.

And you might want to try the nightly builds. Perhaps it's a problem that's been fixed.

I'm not familiar with MJPEG in a WMV wrapper. Is there more to your workflow than you described?

There are 2 "video" streams in that file. HandBrake is picking the first which is mjpeg. But the "correct" video steram may be the second which is wmv3. Support for multiple source video tracks in a single file isn't planned for HandBrake.

Again, many thanks for your replies. Out of my depth here, but I guess I now begin to understand the issue - the video is basically a slide show consisting of stills and a few video clips, so when saving the project as a movie, it looks like windows movie maker may have used two 'formats(?)' to accommodate stills and videos - mjpeg and wmv3 (and yet, it shows as a wmv file in properties)?

Thanks for your help, but looks like I may have 'drawn a blank' in this instance? ..... unless anyone can suggest another solution?

You will want to try a more robust editing/render solution than Windows Movie Maker.

Like what? Sony Vegas? That's $600 USD.

Now I understand why the name "Vegas". You must win at a casino in "Las Vegas" to buy it. LOL!

I've owned Vegas Pro for twelve years, but I was thinking something a bit more entry-level would work for you. And no, I don't have a recommendation.

Again, thanks for the suggestions. Looks like WMM is not the best platform for creating videos to be transfered later to iPad ..... Prob easier to import stills + videos and edit directly on imovie.

Windows Movie Maker 12 does export h264/mp4, which "should" play fine on an iPad (assuming proper settings), so exporting the same thing in Handbrake may not be necessary.

I'd still try updating to a nightly build as changeset 5921, although it was designed with embedded artwork in mind, may resolve your issue.

Thanks for these. I'll try updating ...... and also, good call re WMM 12 - as you say, it does indeed export as mp4.

That "track" probably is embedded artwork. elenril had to shave his head in shame after making such elements be their own tracks.
