Win 2K8 R2 Support?

Post by JWS »

I recently posted an issue I am having with HandBrake jobs not completing properly on a server running Win 2K8 R2...

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30152

Out of curiosity, I ran one of the problem jobs singularly, and had the same issue.
I moved the job to workstation class machine (quad-core, 4GB RAM, Win 7 Ultimate) and the job complete & produced a correct output file.

Just curious if there is any known issues using HandBrake with Win 2K8 R2?
...as this seems to be the common link.

THX!

Not a known issue, no. Do you use the same output drive with both machines?

R2 2008 is just windows 7. others use hb on it without issue.

worth posting both logs for comparison

could it be some group policy or permissions problem?

The only difference between the incode profile of the working & failed jobs:
I typically rescale H-rez to 1280, which was the case with the failed job, and I failed to change it from 1920 on the successfully completed job.
Just out of curiosity, I will rerun the same job on the 2K8 system, with H-rez set to 1920. ...results to follow.

The disk on the 2K8 system is actually a 4-way stripe across 4 320GB disks, with >1TB free.
The server has 72GB of RAM. RAM usage on ~15 parallel HB jobs is typically around 8-10GB, so available RAM is not an issue.

This is log for the Win 7 system, which produced a usable output file.

Re: Win 2K8 R2 Support?

Post by JWS »

I did more testing on the Win 2K8 server...

It seems the failed jobs are in some way related to the sub-sampling of the image size.
I was able to run 17 parallel HB jobs, to completion, provided I left the image at the native resolution.
Odd, huh?!?!?
