modify existing file did not recognize audio tracks

Post by N!ghtW4lk3r »

Hey :)

Some time ago i ripped a 2h bd-movie with two audio tracks to nearly 8gb mkv file. somedays ago, as the diskspace is low , i want to modify this existing file to encode the audio track to 5.1 AC3. i have done this before with another movie of nearly 7gb - that worked fine.
but if i drag the first movie on handbrake, it scans, offers me the video options but no audio track options. a look into the log told me, that handbrake has recognized both audio tracks, but... what now?

Nope. Log says everything worked correctly. What happens when you try to add a track on the audio tab?
i want to modify this existing file to encode the audio track to 5.1 AC3.
Um, you can't "modify" an existing file with HandBrake. You can only re-encode. Video Passthrough isn't supported. If you only want to re-encode audio, there are other tools for this.

what happens if i click on the add a track button in the audio tab?
absolutly nothing. no error message. no wait cursor.

yes. i said modify, but i mean re-encode or re-convert. passthrough isn't neccessary since the source bitrate is way to high 6000+ (rf18/fast if i remember correctly), i use rf19/slow now - that results in ~3500 and no visually differences. what are those other tools you mentioned? in this case i need to re-encode both video and audio, but there are other files where i only need to convert the audio from dts to ac3 5.1...

i found the problem which seems to be an bug in the current (used to reconvert) or an older (used to create) version of handbrake.

the problem is the mkv chapter data. in the last lines of the activity log the chapters are listed - chapter 2 is listed with an negative number (-168406:-38:-6). i removed the chapter data from the mkv file using mkvmerge and dragged the chapter-less-mkv-file onto handbrake - the audio tracks are displayed and could be removed or reconverted.

can a mod please move this to the bug-forum or should i create a new thread?

This is probably already fixed in the nightly builds: http://handbrake.fr/nightly.php

When it's ready. Currently the MacGUI is lagging behind a bit.
