Mosaic video display on .m4v copy of BluRay

Post by BunnyTwoFang »

Hi,

INFORMATION
I want to produce an ipad version of a Blueray set I have purchased.
Using Handbrake 64bit and AnyDVD HD I have succesfully made an .m4v version of two of the BluRays in the set without issue.. These also play back fine in VLC or PowerDvd.

However, the other two discs in the set of four exhibit a corrupted screen display when playing back the .m4v file.
It looks like watching a tiled/mosaic of the video. I tried carefully washing the discs but it made no difference.

I would appreciate help in isolating the issue.

Thanks

The disc(s) in question may also be protected by BD+. More info:

And? AnyDVD HD should take care of that in a way that makes processing with HandBrake possible.

And you're right, but unfortunately that's not always the case.

I mention the above because mosaicing is the primary artifact created by BD+. Short of employing a JVM identical to the Blu-ray spec's, it's nearly impossible to counteract BD+ on the fly and takes hours to create a workable solution using a proper dump. It's entirely possible that a recently released BD+ disc is not yet compatible with even the most current AnyDVD HD or MakeMKV. Both softwares rely on users to submit BD+ dumps for manual processing. It is not necessarily automatic.

Of course, it may be something else entirely. In any case, if updating to the latest nightly does not solve the problem, I'd research the specific title and any known issues with AnyDVD HD. BD+ is of course outside the scope of HB.

I know MakeMKV likes to fail outright when BD+ decryption doesn't succeed though, not sure about AnyDVD.

Thanks. You solved the problem! :D :D :D

It was not BD+, and the nightly build worked.

A couple of notes:

The BluRay was older than I thought (2010) and as clearly explained on the nightly build page, the nightly build version is unstable - I had a few tries before it was able to run through.
I noted that when I changed the Picture Size from 1920 to 1280 it crashed on two occasions.

Thank you everybody! I can now watch on my iPad.

How about a bug report: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=18906 in the bugs forum

If people don't tell us about issues, they will be in the stable release when it comes out.
