Recent HandBrake nightlies launch empty interface

Post by mike20021969 »

I've recently tried Handbrake svn5819 (32bit) and svn5823 (32bit) and nothing within the interface is showing. I'm not sure with which nightly this error started, but I have archived a few recent ones so I will install what I have to see what happens - EDIT svn5814 shows the same error too.

HandBrake 0.9.9 does launch correctly.

Using Windows XP SP3.

With svn5819/svn5823:

You need to use a newer version.

In that case, I have no idea what's causing it. No error windows or anything?

Anything in the windows event viewer?

hmm, not working on my XP VM's, running fine on 7 though.

Edit: Looks like theres some kind of bug/issue with Windows XP. SVCHost is locking up. Maybe related somehow :S

That's good to know. Hopefully a fix coming in the near future.
The latest VidCoder 1.5.7 Beta based on svn5819 doesn't launch in XP, but does throw an error regarding hb.dll - http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=154179&page=45.

Thanks.

(Nothing showing in the Event Viewer - I cleared all events, then launched HandBrake. Refreshed event viewer. Nothing there at all).

Looks like it may be something to do with the lack of OpenCL support. It's not finding the dll.

Looks like AMD dropped support for Windows XP

Does that mean there wont be a fix?

Unless I got the wrong end of the stick, my laptop uses Intel processors.

In theory, you could just roll your own CLI and hb.dll and compile without OpenCL support but unfortunately there appears to be a second show stopper for XP now. Some of the new file handling code uses API's not available on XP so even if you do that, it'll just crash with a different error. Will need to look to see if there are any alternatives

The current svn5825 nightly launches a non-usable interface...

uhhuh. There hasn't been any fixes put in yet for the underlying issues as I've discussed here and in other threads.

It may display now, but it won't work on XP *or* systems without a working OpenCL runtime. So scanning will not work, presets probably won't load etc etc.
Chances are you'll get an error messages complaining about a missing function in msvcrt or OpenCL.dll missing now.

Is it possible to get a copy of the last HandBrake nightly svn installer that did work with XP?
(I deleted my archive and only have versions >svn5814 :( ).
Thanks.

(It'll be somewhere between svn5776~svn5814).

Regarding support for nightlies on XP being broken:
It may be a good idea to give the warning message BEFORE installation.

That involves reading though the NSIS documentation to figure out how and I haven't had the time.
