According to the log, your source file has a display aspect ratio of 4:3. If that's wrong (i.e. the picture is stretched) you can set the display width manually by turning off "keep aspect ratio", setting "anamorphic" to custom and entering the correct width (for a height of 572 pixels that would be about 1016).

Your source is also a HandBrake encode with a frame size of 720x752, which makes no sense at all.

What was the original source prior to your initial HandBrake encode?

PAL DVDs and broadcasts typically use 720x576, so accounting for cropping, that resolution does make sense.

You're reading it wrong... it's 752 not 572.

the original source was a dvd ripped using make mkv, part of a series, all the other episodes are fine.

Well, it was re-encoded with HandBrake at some point, and something went wrong. If you go back to the original DVD, the aspect ratio issue will go away.

The HandBrake log for the MKV source would be more helpful.

No. You are most assuredly feeding an already transcoded file back into HandBrake... it's right there in the pathname.
G:\iTunes movies\new films\done\
So either we're psychic and know the pathname of where you're storing your completed encodes or you've inadvertently fed your output back into your input.

It's a bug in anamorphic Loose. When encoding the original MKV source, use anamorphic Strict instead. Also, you may want to check cropping manually for this one.
