Handbrake crashes on 64 GB memory systems

Post by Qwap »

Hello,

Handbrake 0.9.5 crashes on an System with 64GB Memory. Same job on another
system with 16 GB of memory runs well.
It crashes with every job startet.

Is this a bug? Could it be resolved?

regards

I have done heaps of compressions of DVDs to MP4 using nightly Handbrake builds including the latest GUI nightly
version for Win 7 x 64 and never had a problem.

You misunderstand. The OP is not talking about 64-bit operating systems, but rather systems with 64 GB of random access memory.

Tried the nightly build 4454. Installation crashes after finishing, but seems to be right installed. Tried the same job as above. No title error occures. Waiting for a new nb version.

This stream doesn't appear to have any video or audio PIDs - HandBrake 0.9.5 falls back on the FFmpeg mpegts demuxer which seems to handle your file.

We need a sample of your source please.

0.9.5 will work well with h.264 (using all 8 Cores  ), no ffmpeg wich uses only one (?), as far as i can say.

The source is a mp4 transportstream from HDTV recorded with Technisat Digicorder K2 HD. In fact, with this kind of source i have a lot of problems. The first part is ~4 GB. Where can i place it?

Re: Handbrake crashes on 64 GB memory systems

Post by Qwap »

yes, i am thinking that the circumstance of crash might depend on the 24 cores rather than the amout of memory. In fact, only the windows version crashes. The linux version runs well. On the same source, on the same machine. From my time as a programmer i also know, that there could be a bug at exactly 64 GB of memory wich does not occure at another amount of Memory, even if it is higher.

Above you can see the log of the appcrash. The same source runs on a 16 gb memory machine with 8 cores well. log is also above.

Not the full 4 GB please. You could split the first 50 MB (using DGSplit or something similar) and upload it somewhere (Mediafire, Localhostr, Dropbox…).

Thanks for the sample. I can reproduce the issue where HandBrake doesn't find any video or audio PIDs.

Unfortunately the developer in charge of the MPEG-TS demuxer won't be available much for the next few weeks.

The machine I used which had 96GB of RAM also had two 6 core Xeons with HT (24 threads total). I had no issues what so ever.

I posted the log. HandBrake crashes on that machine running Win7x64u. The same TS File runs well on an i7 Machine with 16GB of Memory. Thats all what i can say. On the same (2x6 Core) machine running Suse Linux 11.4 HandBrake runs with the same file well. (Not using ffmpeg wich runs)
