Encoding Problem with Interlaced m2ts

I am having a problem encoding a concert from a Blu-Ray DVD. The .m2ts file is a 16.1 GB, 1920x1080 interlaced.

When I tried using it as the source in Handbrake, encoding at a constant quality of 21, the resulting .mp4 file was larger than the source file and wouldn't play.

I opened the file with tsMuxer and found it had a DTS Master Audio and a LPCM soundtrack, so I removd the LPCM sound track and converted the DTS Master Audio to normal DTS.

I was able to encode this file, however, it took over 4 hours and the resulting .mp4 file was 8.34 GB encoding at constant quality of 23. The .mp4 has is jumpy and has drop outs.

I'd suggest decomb instead of deinterlace.

With all the motion going on, I'm not surprised concerts are producing large files. Drop the quality (raise RF) until you get a size you're happy with. The rule of thumb is 6 points on RF will double or halve the video bitrate.

Also you may want to upgrade to the nightly for general improvements; 0.9.5 is about a year old.

I solved the problem of file size and the dropouts and freezing by encoding the concert using a average bit rate of 6000. The log is below

CRF 27 should get you about the same bitrate, per the stats at the end of the encode.

I reencoded it with the 64-bit version of Handbrake at a constant quality of 26 and the quality is great. I've change so many things, I'm not sure what was going on but finally a good output.
