I need help with Blu-Ray encoding.

Post by JSW »

Hi,

I just got a Blu-Ray player for my PC, and I'm trying to encode my first movie. I'm using DVDFab8 to rip the movie and HandBrake to encode it. DVDFab8 is ripping the discs to ISOs OK (I've tried a couple different movies), but HandBrake won't use them as source files. The first ISO (Avatar) just chugs in HandBrake for 30 minutes or more when I select it (just analyzing the file, not trying to encode it) and then finally errors out. The second ISO (The Matrix) comes back immediately with a "Your Source may be copy protected, badly mastered or in a format which HandBrake does not support." I've had no problem with normal DVDs using this software combination.

The Blu-Ray drive I got is an OEM, so it didn't come with any software. Right now I'm not able to play Blu-Rays on my PC using any of the DVD software that I have. My intent was mainly to be able to rip discs, so playback isn't really a priority at this point. I was wondering if this could somehow be part of the problem - missing codec, etc.

I'd appreciate any advice on what I can try to resolve this issue.

Thanks!

Bluray iso's are not supported. IT has to be m2ts or full folder structure.

I just assumed it used ISOs for everything, so that's what I tried. I'll have to check my ripping software to see what options I have.

Thanks!

You can use Slysofts free virtual clonedrive to mount the iso first. Then handbrake can process the mounted file structure.

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I have tried to locate the answer to my problem via other means (google, Hanbrake help and other forum entries) but have been unsuccessful.

My question is I have used Handbrake to create files from my DVD's for my Droid phone for months without any problems. I recently (last two weeks) bought a new computer with a built in Blu-ray drive. I converted "Avatar" without any problems the first day I got the computer. The file is .m4v and plays great in iTunes. Since that first conversion I have not been able to get a file that is playable (iTunes, Quicktime or Windows Media Player) I have attempted to convert several other movies using the "normal" preset. I'm running AnyDVD HD just for info. I will include the code for Avatar and another movie that fails to play, hopefully it will help.

I really do like Handbrake and do appreciate the time and effort that is spent creating a program for the use of dummies like me. Thank you for your time and any help you may be able to provide.

Code: Select all

MP4ERROR: (m_size <= (uint64_t)0xFFFFFFFF): assert failure
Your encode has exceeded the maximum size of 4 GB allowed for a 32 bit formatted file. Select "large file support" and/or increase RF to ~23... RF 20 is very high for a 1080p encode.
