Encoding several .m2ts? [bug included]

Post by oRBIT2002 »

My favourite blu-ray movie, doesn't consist of only one .m2ts but from several smaller ones. Is there a way of encoding this using Handbrake? Usually I just pick the biggest .m2ts file and things work, but how do I do know?
Thanks in advance

You could use something like eac3to and/or tsmuxer to combine into one large .m2ts file.

Or pre-rip the disc using MakeMKV which will combine the m2ts files into a single file, preserving chapters.

Thanks for the MakeMKV idea. However I tried the same thing with DVDFab, remuxing to mkv. But the file won't encode proplery in Handbrake, it totally flips out. Check out the end of the log.. the "sync failed" keep on going forever, and the encode looks like something encoded with 32kbit or something (really bad).
EDIT: The latest nightly build, 3504, has the same problem.

Re: Encoding several .m2ts? [bug included]

I have no experience with DVDFab for this job... I do know that MakeMKV has worked on every source I've pointed it at so far and is free while in beta, so it's worth a shot. If you do decide to try MakeMKV, I suggest discarding any unwanted subtitles - Handbrake can't work with them (yet) and more than 16 subtitle streams breaks the ffmpeg decoder.

The beta for my MakeMKV has expired (downloading a new version doesn't reset the trial, as stated on the website), so.. I don't trust DVDFab entirely but perhaps someone can make sense of my log..

Have you tried going to the MakeMKV forum and grabbing the new key from the announcements?

I use PlayTV with my PS3 and it records as m2ts files, if I end up with multiple files (trying to avoid 4GB limit for example) I generally join the files with TSSplitter. Open it then go to File > Open for Joining, then click Add and select all the files, then hit the big Join button.

TSMuxer ALWAYS works for me.

Just first use BDInfo (freeware and since you're Windows will work for you) to find the actual playlist file for the movie, then load THIS into TSMuxer and create a single M2TS file which Handbrake will process. Never fails.
