splitting a movie in 2

Post by joe759 »

Here is my question/problem. I have a dvd that has a 3 hour plus movie. When I encode it I get a movie that is bigger than the 4 gig barrier and have tried it and it wont play. I want to keep my quality settings, so I thought I could split it in 2 by using the chapters. The movie has 24 chapters, so I made part1 chapters 1-12, then part2 13-24. When I check both mvies though the begining of part2 did not match the end of part1 one like it should. I am doing something wrong or does anybody have anoth sugestion of how to split the movie in 2. Thanks.

Was this because the end of part 1 is cut off a bit?

Yep after looking at it more it looks like part1 is missing about 3 or 4 seconds. It just happened to be a scene transition so it looked like it missed a lot. Is there anyway to remedy this.

can you split it at the previous chapter? 1-11 and 12-24? Not sure it would help, but thats what I would try.

gave it a try, I tried 4 different locations and all the same problem. It looks like around 3 or 4 seconds gets cut off the end of the first encode. I tried 1-11 12-24, 1-13 14-24, and 1-20 21-24. Does anybody know anyway around this? I also gave it a try on the Mac version and the same thing happened, so actualy this is not a windows only version problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

ok scott, thanks for the response. So far this was the only movie I had to split, so its not that big of a deal.
