So, minding my own business, happily transcoding DVD's using Handbrake. When I watch the fruits of my labor, I notice a strange jump in the video. Something isn't right. I'm viewing the file using the latest version of VLC (1.03), and I check out the file properties. Oddly, the frame rate reported by VLC is somewhere in the neighborhood of 11. What?! This is nuts. The original movie is a standard 24 frames per second affair. 11 isn't even close. Is this the cause of my strange jump (which turns out to happen often in the transcoded movie).
How does Handbrake determine frame rate, is it possible it could cause this sort of issue, and is there a solution? (btw, the "jump" in this case is a slight temporal skip of a frame, or so it seems. When you watch smooth pan or zoom or something like that, there is a bump in the scene, a discontinuity).
