New User - Problems with DVDs

Post by Akositzke »

I'm new to Handbrake. I'm trying to copy my DVDs to my hard drive, and am experiencing a couple issues. First, when Handbrake is Scanning the Source it takes quite a long time - sometimes over 5-10 minutes. When I view the Activity Window it shows that it is trying to read the Titles on the disc - but each one says that it is erroring. Here is an example of what it's saying

First, it says:

Code: Select all

Opening D:\VIDEO_TS...
[22:09:07] hb_scan: path=D:\VIDEO_TS, title_index=0
[22:09:07] scan: trying to open with libdvdread
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 4.1.3
libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdread: Could not open input: Permission denied
libdvdread: Can't open D: for reading
libdvdread: Device (null) inaccessible, CSS authentication not available.
NAME OPEN FAILED
libdvdnav: Unable to find home directorylibdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00fe0000. Regions: 1
libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdread: Could not open input: Permission denied
libdvdread: Can't open D: for reading
libdvdread: Device (null) inaccessible, CSS authentication not available.
[22:09:08] scan: DVD has 19 title(s)
[22:09:08] scan: scanning title 1
[22:09:08] scan: opening IFO for VTS 1
[22:09:08] pgc_id: 1, pgn: 1: pgc: 0x1546400

Then, farther along, it says:

Code: Select all

Scanning title 14 of 19...
[22:11:58] dvdnav: Read Error, Error reading NAV packet.
Scanning title 14 of 19...
[22:11:58] dvdnav: Read Error, Error reading NAV packet.
It will just repeat this over and over - usually about 10 or so times for each title on the disc.

After it finishes scanning, it does allow me to chose a title and start encoding the file. The problem is that it runs between 1-2 fps and tells me that it will take 115 hours for one DVD! I downloaded and installed the newest version of VLC - I'm running Windows XP. I've tried using Handbrake on 4 other Windows computers - 3 XP, 1 Vista - all are experiencing the same problems.

Any help would be appreciated!!

I thought that might be the problem...I just wasn't sure. Any hope that this will change?
