Audio / Vide Sync Problem

I'm trying to make a back up of a brand new DVD release, but when I play the movie back I find a second or two delay between audio and video. I've been using handbrake for a few years now and this is the first time I've ever encountered problems.

Windows XP Pro, SP 3
Handbrake 0.9.2
Encoder: H.264
Audio Encoder: ACC

Try upgrading to a version that's less than 2 years old. 0.9.3 has been available for a year now and 0.9.4 will be released any day now. A snapshot of the upcoming release is available http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12842

Thanks John.

In Handbrake I went to Help | Check for Updated prior to me creating this post, but when I did that I got, "There are no updates at this time." So I figured a post was in order.

I'm curious (and will upgrade here soon), but do you happen to know why I've encountered that problem after having used Handbrake for so long without any errors?

I upgraded to Handbrake 0.9.3, and tried making a back up of the same DVD. This time, I got no sound at all. The settings I used were:

And whatever presets come with this format. Do you know what I've done wrong?

It appears you haven't ripped the DVD first - HandBrake 0.9.3 and later don't have built-in decryption, so you'll have to rip the DVD to your hard drive first or use software like AnyDVD that decrypts the DVD on-the-fly.

Darn. That's a shame. I've been using DVD43 and Handbrake for years without a problem. I guess I'll start looking for another de-crypter.

I'm having a hard time decyphering the log from Handbrake. Would you please help me understand how the log shows that it's a decryption problem? Just for clarification, I was using handbrake 0.9.2 for ever, with DVD 43. Then I got my new DVD, and the sound was out of sync with the video. Then I upgraded to Handbrake 0.9.3, and now I get no sound.

I'd like to be able to better understand the log files.

DVD43 apparently works fine for older DVDs. For recent ones (such as Star Trek), not so much.

As for the log, many "a52_syncinfo failed" and/or "sync: video time didn't advance" messages usually indicate that the DVD is encrypted or badly decrypted.

Ok, so I have GREAT news! I just upgraded DVD43 to version 4.6.0.0. and I have since backed up Star Trek flawlessly, with no audio / video sync problems! I like the low, low price of "free", which is what I paid for DVD43.
