Handbrake Encode from M2TS crashing (svn2845)

Post by happysin » Tue Oct 27, 2009 4:40 am

I think this is a continuation of this issue, but since this is a new build and an updated M2TS rip I thought I should update, Also, I have an error log from Windows App Log. So it's still the same issue, it crashes at some indeterminate point in the rip. I have tried this on Win7 and Win2003 so far and they both fail the same way.

The Application Error Log says:

The video it does generate works fine, and the GUI doesn't crash, even though the encode dies. I've tried using the most current ClownBD (.75) and just EAC3to directly, both with the same issue. It isn't a drive space issue as far as I can tell (I have nearly a TB free on one computer and 300Gb on the other).

This has been exclusively with an MKV container right now. I'm trying an MP4 container right now and will report back.

Quite likely that this is the ffmpeg bug showing itself. It won't be fixed until sometime after 0.9.4.
In the mean time, your only option is to find a different software package.

Understandable, bugs are what they are. :)

I'm not terribly familiar with other encoding packages. If there one you can recommend to go from an HD M2TS to MKV?

Thanks!

I should have clarified, go from a VC1 video source in an M2TS to an H264 video source in an MKV?

Those details mater. ;)

I've been working with Maelos on #handbrake who has the ffmpeg vc1 issue. We tried substituting an update of the ffmpeg libraries and it fixed his problem. Here's a patch for anyone who wishes to build their own and test it for us.

EDIT: oops. looked at the wrong version number when naming the tarball. patch updated.

Very cool! that's outside of my technical expertise, but I kind-of got the same solution going for me. I started using MeGUI with an updated ffdshow (and manually configured to use libavcodec and not WMV9 since this is Server 2003 and that caused issues) and was able to complete a transcode from the VC1 source in the M2TS container to the H.264 video in an MKV.

Now I'm just tweaking settings, but at least for the immediate term, I have a workaround.

Looking forward to using Handbrake for this instead, though. It's easier to use than MeGUI. ;)
