Choppy broken audio from blu-ray MKV

Post by Majendie »

Hi guys,

I've been having some trouble with the audio in my encoding - I'm using MakeMKV to get an MKV directly from a blu-ray, then attempting to compress using Handbrake. I've tried 4-5 times with a couple of different files with exactly the same result.

From what I can interpret from the log file it does seem to contain all the encoding information I have specified, however for clarity I am attempting to encode into an .mkv file using Constant Quality x264, specifying a file size (10GB) instead of a quality setting (still experimenting with that - any suggestions there?) and using passthrough AC3 audio settings. Different video settings I have tried have changed the size of the file but not the audio issue, similarly with different audio settings. Latest attempts using the AC3 settings as I figured out that it was not altering the audio that way but still the same result as below. I am using Handbrake 0.9.3, not the development snapshot (although I will try with that tonight).

Video is fine - no issues at all. However the audio is universally choppy, although it is in sync with the video. By choppy, I mean broken, not hissy or crackly or anything like that - sounds ok, I'm just getting it in little pieces. The log file has what looks pretty clearly like the issue coming up -

[11:35:32] sync: audio 0 time went backwards 0 ms, dropped 4 frames (next 748154880, current 748154880)
[11:35:32] sync: adding 128 ms of silence to audio 0 start 748169280, next 748157760

Repeated ad nauseum. I've attempted to upload the log file the pastebin - may require and edit to get it working.

I appreciate any help and or advice anyone is able to offer!

Thankyou,

- M

If the log is too big, you can get away with cutting out alot of the duplicate lines and just place a marker saying "[Repeated a few hundred times]"

First a suggestion, try the development snapshot. I just tested an mkv generated by makemkv using the latest hb and it worked fine for me.

Second a question. What version of makemkv are you using? I used 1.4.7 beta.

I'm having a very similar problem. Would be great if someone could post a possible fix or let me know if the issue is resolved with the snapshot.

Why don't you try the snapshot for yourself?

I also had choppy audio (AC3 5.1) from a Blu-ray MKV using Handbrake 0.9.3.
I switched to HandBrake SVN2845 Snapshot and now my audio is perfect.

WOW! Thanks so much to all the dev team. This version has solved _ALL_ my audio problems while encoding mkv!!! :P
