.m4v will not play (.avi does)

Post by jdthomp » Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:00 am

Bare with me please if this has already been addressed. Looked through the topics and couldnt find anything matching my issue. I am a noob with HB, but have read a lot of good things about it. I am trying to rip my DVD's to stream through my PS3, the problem I am running into is this: Attempted to rip Bourne Ultimatum into M4V format and after about 4 hours of waiting it was finished, so I thought. Attempted to play it back first on my computer using VLC and it will not play at all. No errors or anything are created. Hit Play and it jumps to the end and is finished (the file size is 4+ GB however). At first I thought perhaps I had problems with my codecs so those were reinstalled. No luck after trying again. Tried to rip the DVD as .AVI using the same encoding technique and it plays fine. Suggestions? I see some questionable entries in the log below, but dont have the expertise to figure them out. Thanks in advance for any advice and time.

....that is not a complete log.

Of course you're not going to be able to read an unfinished mp4 file...

Love it :)

Fair enough... however I did mean to mention that the attempt prior was a complete one... With the same results... I was hoping that there could be enough info in the log to give atleast some idea of what might be going on... Thanks for the reply

Update:

Went ahead and tried it again. Full rip to .mp4... For the sake of argument I copied the whole DVD to my HD prior to ripping also. After completion of the rip the file size is about 2G or so. Attempted to play it back via VLC, no go. VLC reports that the file is 00:00 minutes long. PS3 of course says the data is corrupted... Thought I had it set up to save the log files, darned if I have it though. Sorry. Still looking for suggestions.

Sorry, but without a full activity log we can't make any suggestions.
