20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
Description of problem or question:
I have lots of 20GB MP4 files that need to be downgraded to a smaller size with no quality loss, I am looking for a setting in Handbrake that could convert these files to a smaller size.
Steps to reproduce the problem (If Applicable):
I have tried all the recommendations on YouTube and Google search and I have been unsuccessful in achieving a smaller file size.
My MP4 Settings are: Length: 02:45:05 Frame Size 1920x1080 Data Rate: 15998 Kbbps Total rate: 16159 Kbps Frame Rate: 30.00 FPS Audio Bit rate: 160 Kbps, Channels (2) Stereo, Audio Sample: 48.000 Khz

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
Try one of the HQ or Super HQ 1080 presets.
Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
Your original file, having been made with a hardware encoder, concerns me that you may experience troublesome quality degradation with too much compression.

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
I used OBS Studio using a YADIF Top Field filter could this be the issue also i recorder the footage using 16000 Kbps which gave me the best results however I am now down to 4 video files under 20GB each and I have 500 videos to capture.

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
My capture settings using OBS Studio are:
OBS (Run as Administrator)
Recording Type: Standard
Recording Format: MP4
Audio Track: 1
Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC H.264
Rate Control: CBR
Bitrate: 16000 Kbps (note i tried 6000, 3500 and these were very poor results - 16000 gives the best sharp image and quality)
Preset: Quality

GPU: 0
Max B Frames : 2
Video Tab set to : lanczos 16 frame rate set as 30

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
Try dropping the encoder preset to as slow as you can tolerate, then increase your RF until you are unhappy with the quality.
Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
Try the x264 software encoder in OBS. It will give you smaller, better quality files to begin with than hardware encoding. Start with
Recording->Advanced->Standard->set RF to 20 and leave the rest alone for the most efficient capture.

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
What he said twice is set your RF slider at 25, not 20 !
You may have to bite the bullet on quality this time.
Next time use a Software Encoder in OBS, and good luck!

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
Hi Guys, still no luck, I contacted a company i buy CGI software from they said the reason the file size is 20GB is that I am capturing 1080p at 30FPS for 3 Hours and that there is no way unless I want bad quality via compression, so I'm guessing I should continue capturing the 20GB files and wait for a software to come out or a new Handbrake platform to be released in the near future to handle this job. Thanks guys for the advice and helpful hints.

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
I tried that setting mate, the video quality was very jerky I tried RF 18-20-24 I even tried the encode profile as : film, what I did notice on a youtube tutorial was that someone has a 44GB MKV file which he claims that had shrunk to 2.5GB, So i tried a new capture of video using MKV format, tried to compress this in Handbrake as a MP4 RF18 Slow encode and still the same i'm afraid, I tried this on my mac i7 16Gb Mem and still no joy.

However is it possible to make a private channel on youtube, upload the file, then download, do you reckon that may resize the 20Gb file

Re: 20GB MP4 Help in downsizing
YouTube will reencode your video when you upload it, this will probably mean quality loss.VincentVBR wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 5:05 pm However is it possible to make a private channel on youtube, upload the file, then download, do you reckon that may resize the 20Gb file

Yeah, we said that too......they said the reason the file size is 20GB is that I am capturing 1080p at 30FPS for 3 Hours and that there is no way unless I want bad quality via compression,
