--pad option error

Post by plittlefield » Mon Aug 08, 2016 4:37 pm

Hello,

I would like to try the 'pad' option to bring a cropped picture back to the HD size of 1280x720 pixels.

Code: Select all

--pad <W:H:C:X,Y> Add borders to pad image to WxH (e.g. letterbox)
Optionally set color of pad to C (default black)
Color may be HTML color name or RGB value
Optionally set position of image in pad area
Any value may be 'auto' in which case the
default value for that field is used
Here is a snippet of the source video:-

Code: Select all

Video
ID : 1
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : High@L4.1
Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames
Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
Duration : 1h 35mn
Bit rate : 5 058 Kbps
Width : 1 280 pixels
Height : 536 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 2.40:1
Frame rate mode : Constant
Frame rate : 23.976 fps
However, when I try and run the following test command line, it gives an error:-

Code: Select all

$ HandBrakeCLI --input input.mp4 --maxWidth 1280 --maxHeight 720 --pad auto:auto:auto:auto output.mp4

[17:35:36] hb_parse_filter_settings: Error parsing (auto)
Invalid pad option auto
Perhaps I have read the help incorrectly?

Can anyone help with an example command line please?

Thanks,

:-)

That's an error in the documentation that I overlooked. Thanks for reporting it. The documentation for pad should read:

Code: Select all

--pad Add borders to pad image to WxH (e.g. letterbox)
Optionally set color of pad to C (default black)
Color may be HTML color name or RGB value
Optionally set position of image in pad area
                           Custom Format:
                             <width=w:height=h:color=c:x=x:y=y>
So for your example

Code: Select all

--pad height=720
I'm also thinking it should be moved into the "Filters" section of help since it is actually a filter.
