Re: 0.9.3 Really Slow..
yeah me too, and I'm running an 8 core mac pro! reeeeeeally slow. I read the blurb about stuff and apparently the new version can access multiple cores during its processing...um...don't think it is doing it quite right... Are you ripping from the DVD itself or did you first rip it to your HDD. If ...

Re: 0.9.3 Completely Broken for Me
I'd say it's working as well as ever. Seeing 150fps here on x264 and over 400fps on ffmpeg. Encodes coming out as expected. There is a reason it's not performing as expected. Nobody has posted the requested information, so I dunno what you expect us to say. (notice red box above) What machine do yo...

Re: Updated to 0.9.3 and now no DVD's Rip???
I have VLC .9.6 installed and I'm having problems. The Hancock DVD stalls on chapter 39 using HB 0.9.3. However, it works fine using HB 0.9.2. I'm glad I didn't trash 0.9.2. Any suggestions? Rip it first using MTR or Fairmount/DETOX. I've seen this so many times in the forum, and 99% of the time if...

Re: Colors look horrible when using anamorphic (with log)
It still has to do the detection. Whether this slows down the encode or not is irrelevant - you either need the feature or you don't. Personally, once detelecine+decomb mature, I'm all for forcing them on permanently and removing the ability to configure anything. Rodney Hear hear! That will take a...

Re: HB Dev support
Thanks for the insight. I have never done any advanced programming, so unfortunately I can't lend a hand there. Maybe there's a way the devs could request specific features be tested with specific titles. That way more of us could lend a hand with QA.

Re: HandBrake Snapshot Build 4
Just did a comparison with the iPhone too. The picture is a little on the bright side on this also. Its like the brightness has been increased by 2% or something. Nate Have you done any comparisons with the original source? I'm wondering which is encode is closer to the original. The "darker&q...

HB Dev support
I've followed the development of HB for a long time. I think the developers need some kind of monetary support to make this development a little more worth it. Maybe something in addition to non-obtrusive ads. A donation page of some sort?

Re: HandBrake Development Snapshot Build 2
Yes, sorry it wasn't very clear. I'm assuming it's the newer build because of the date reported. Good to know that the 0/1 means stable/unstable.Cavalicious wrote:I think he is asking why SVN 1488 reports as svn 1475

Re: HandBrake Development Snapshot Build 2
My about menu on Snapshot Build 2 says: svn1477 (2008053101)
The about menu on the latest SVN build (svn 1488) says: svn1475 (2008060201)
The date shows newer in the SVN build (if the number is parenthesis is a date), but the svn number is different. Stupid question, but I was just wondering why.

Re: READ ME / POST HERE if a specific DVD/Movie won't rip
Have you read the thread, and have you tried any of the solutions to previous problems listed above? Are you going straight from DVD or have you already ripped to your HDD. In case you didn't notice, it is recommended that you rip the DVD to your HDD first using MTR, put the resulting rip through DT...

It looks like the only difference between your settings and my modified dynaflash settings is the weightb=1. Why do you turn weighted b-frames off?

Re: Ugly CRF encodes
I'll see if I can post a pic. Not sure how to get a screenshot off my plasma. I'd get one from QT, but it doesn't exhibit the same problem as the ATV. The only thing I know so far is that a 2-pass does not have the same problem. So there must be something else in my settings that is throwing it off....

Re: Ugly CRF encodes
OK I finally checked the results on my ATV and PS3 using the same plasma; both devices set to 1080P. I did brand new encodes of chapter 4 (where the problem is very noticeable). The encode with dynaflash's settings (I believe that's what you've posted above, Cav) plus merange=24 yielded the same res...

Re: Ugly CRF encodes
Thanks for the quick response guys. I'm at work now, running the tests at home without vbv (as I too thought that may be the issue). I will edit this post once I go over the results.
Cav, just for testing purposes, do you remember what your advanced settings were for that particular title?

Re: READ ME / POST HERE if a specific DVD/Movie won't rip
Try putting it through DTOX if you have it. If not, the only other free solution I know of that might fix your problem is RipIt4Me for Windows. I use it on my Mac through Parallels and it works wonderfully.

Ugly CRF encodes
Excuse me if this has already been posted about but the only thing I could find about artifacts in 0.9.2 was on an XP machine and it seemed to be a machine specific problem. I'm running HB 0.9.2 on an iMac C2D 2GHz w/ 2GB RAM in 10.5.2. My target device is ATV running on a Panasonic plasma at 1080P....

Re: Best settings for posting vid to web
What have you tried so far? Also what format are you encoding to? I would probably start with a 2-pass ABR (MP4 H.264) at around 1000Kbps and go down from there.
Re: ROME DISK
Most TV DVDs, AFAIK, use separate titles for each episode. Do what nightstrm said.

Definitely turn off auto-start. And don't have two programs open at the same time that access the DVD drive.

Re: Multiple DVD's into one file
I don't want to promote your inadequate searching or anything but here's a starter: you'll want to use DVD2OneX, it's the easiest, most fool proof way IMO. Load up the [ripped] DVD into DTOX and click ++ (Join seamless title). Be sure to set your target size to at least DVD DL so you don't have to c...

Re: Can't convert TS MPEG2 file from DVD-R
What I've done in the past to get clips off DVDs (commercial or non) is to rip and encode the chapter or chapters containing the segment I want, then I open the resulting encode from HB in QT Pro (if you have it) and set the in/out points and save the file. That may not be much help, but you could t...

Your best bet is to stick with the ATV 2-pass preset and hope for the best, unless you want to delve into CRF.

Re: High Quality Apple TV DVD Rip
In my limited experience it's near impossible to get 100% DVD quality. You can certainly increase your bitrate for starters, and when you get more ambitious do a search for CRF, learn everything you can, and try an encode using CRF. Though the quality may not perfectly match the DVD, the convenience...

Re: Is this possible?
The .m4v vs. .mp4 extension depends on your prefs. You can check "Use iPod/iTunes friendly (.m4v) file extension for MP4" and this will give all your MP4 files the .m4v extension. That is important, because in my experience, .mp4 files encoded with AAC+AC3 won't open in QT unless you chang...
