Re: Intraframe for editing

Perhaps explaining what you're trying to do would help. Your description so far points to you needing a video editor which will allow you to select individual frames.

Re: Help with x264 enccoding for Bl-ray authoring

Not from personal experience. I avoid writing optical disks in general, let alone ones that are intended for playback in consumer hardware. But there are people involved in the other topics that master disks on a regular basis, including for pressing. Their advice holds a lot more weight than mine e...

Re: Help with x264 enccoding for Bl-ray authoring

A search for "bluray authoring" finds a lot of messages on this forum, many explaining that handbrake wasn't intended to generate BD-spec h264 video, and that different BD authoring tools have different requirements.

Re: Encoding stops before ending BUG

[11:47:41] sync: got 4068 frames, 17557 expected This is indicative of a read error. If you're trying to force handbrake to rip disks, any read errors will be treated as "end of file". Try using ripping software, which will give better diagnostics. You can then encode the files created by...

Re: Job Queue with Pauses

As suggested, you can insert sleep commands (Linux, Mac, BSD) between each line of your script. But you should take care of your cooling issues, because the pauses won't stop any overheating on long encodes. If the temps stay below 70c, you should be fine anyway. Newer CPUs tolerate up to 90c withou...

Re: Handbrake no longer works after Win10 update

Once you have ripped the first video with MakeMKV and started handbrake encoding it, you can keep ripping with MakeMKV and get ahead of HB. And the first rip will be MUCH faster without the bottleneck of trying to feed HB directly. Trust me - it's easy enough to get a few WEEKS ahead of handbrake, r...

Re: files are always an hour long

You are using a VERY old version, you should upgrade. Output from DVD recorders do not follow DVD authoring standards very closely. It is possible they were recorded in one hour chunks, and menu entries were used to "divide" them. It is possible that a dedicated ripper like MakeMKV could e...

Code: Select all

Skipping subtitle scan. No suitable subtitle tracks.
Foreign audio can only works if there are multiple subtitle tracks.

Re: VOB File Conversion Query

Zero image quality loss, you want something like MakeMKV to simply re-package the VOB data as an MKV file.

Otherwise, handbrake's DVD-resolution presets do a pretty good job of minimizing loss of what is already a lossy source.

Re: Merge avi's by name

No, handbrake does not merge files.

The ffmpeg.org web page has examples of doing this with ffmpeg, including optional change of container type.

If Windows is closing it, there should be a message in the Event Viewer that matches the time it closed the program, with more information.

Re: What the crop?

Measurable, but I wouldn't call them huge. Fast x264 preset, 19.389250/18.127485 fps, cropped/uncropped, not quite 7% faster. Very Slow x264, 2.809664/2.620724 fps, slightly more than 7% faster. The others had extenuating circumstances (other encodes being run on the machine at the same time), so th...

Re: DTS-HD MA 7.1 but need 5.1. Which options should i use?

If the pass-through you chose isn't the same as the source, it will get re-encoded with the fall-back encoder. What you chose depends on your playback environment. If your player does what it is supposed to do, the 7.1 track will play as a 5.1 track if the player only supports 5.1, or even 2.0 if th...

Re: HDCP

There are a lot of players that aren't licensed as "Bluray compatible", which do not use HDCP at all. Those that ARE licensed should invoke the check for DVD-quality videro. It's pretty much a moot point now, though, since almost all new monitors have the HDCP circuitry in them. If your pr...

Re: What the crop?

To see if the cropping affected x265 results in the same way, I ran one encode each with the "H.265 MKV 1080p30" preset, modified in the same way as the x264 presets (no filters, RF=20, variable frame rate same as source). This took a LOT longer on my hardware, as expected, but here are th...

Re: HDCP

HDCP is between your player and the display device. Handbrake doesn't insert or copy anything over.

Think about it - HDCP is used to "fix" the "analog hole" of capturing video between the playback software and the monitor. You have already captured the video.

Re: What the crop?

To confirm what has been mentioned before, slower encoder settings do not necessarily mean smaller files. I queued up the same cropped/uncropped encodes with the x264 encoder set to "very slow". Only one of them (cropped) has completed so far, and the result is the largest file so far, and...

That is possible, but then there should be a matching file for the audio.

Different security cameras do wildly different things. A lot of them require special plug-ins to use with browsers.

Re: What the crop?

Perhaps; it wasn't noticeable in my limited testing. I was only looking at the size, and RF=20 on a BD source should have covered for a fair amount of potential quality issues (default for the preset was RF=22). I did the same test using the qsv_h264 encoder, which used QP=20, and got smaller files ...

What the crop?

Had a machine that wasn't doing anything today, so I decided to test whether cropping makes for smaller files, or the easy-to-compress letterbox would win out with smaller sizes. Test file is the Bluray version of Logans Run, which is 1920x1080 on disk, 140 pixels worth of letter box top and bottom,...

Re: Exact Dimensions

If you're using the GUI, you can't get handbrake to INCREASE the size to 1440x1080 if the input is smaller. You'd need to use the command line interface to get everything to scale to that exact size.
