Subtitles Missing
I am trying to encode Gran Torino with the English subtitles shown when the actors speak a non-English language. The file I am working with is an .m2ts file from the Blu-Ray disc with VC1 video, AC3 audio and PGS text streams, which I assume are the subtitles. When I open the .m2ts file in Handbrake...

Re: Container for x264
I'm going to partially answer my question hoping it will help somebody else. I encoded a movie using using X264 and AAC in an MP4 container using a Avg Bitrate of 2000. The MP4 file actually turned out to be a little smaller than the AVI file I had previously encoded. The jerkiness is gone and the o...

Container for x264
I have been trying to determine which container / codec combination would produce the best quality. I started out encoding using XVID with AC3 in AVI containers but didn't like the blockiness of the result. So, I tried using X264 with AC3 in AVI containers but the video was usually jerky. Next, I tr...

Re: Compile Handbrake GUI on Windows
I encountered another problem with QuickTime. When I tried to preview a movie I encoded using Xvid, QuickTime only displayed a black window so I went to the folder with the encoded sample file and tried to play it. It played successfully in Windows Media Player and other players but when I tried to ...

Re: Compile Handbrake GUI on Windows
I just tried to build the Handbrake GUI on Windows for the first time and got the following warnings: Warning 1 Cannot load type library for reference "AxQTOControlLib". Library not registered. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8002801D (TYPE_E_LIBNOTREGISTERED)) HandBrakeCS Warning 2 Cannot load...

Re: DeBlocking Xvid & X264
I took the suggestions about using Constant Quality and encoded X-Men: The Last Stand Blu-Ray DVD. In order to get HandBrake to accept it, I removed everything but the H264 video and the AC3 audio I converted from the DTS-HD audo track. The resulting file was over 16GB in size. I selected the Consta...

Re: DeBlocking Xvid & X264
You both mention using Constant Quality, which I never have. The documentation indicates you don't have control over the size of the file because the compression varies based on movement. I have recently been encoding Blu-Ray DVDs and use a file size setting of 3900 because players seem to have prob...

Re: DeBlocking Xvid & X264
I took your suggestion and only encoded the chapters of Superman where I noticed the blocking. I have attached two activity logs, one using Xvid encoding and the other using X264. I don't kow if you'll see anything because I have made very few changes to the Normal settings. This is the Xvid log: ##...

Re: DeBlocking Xvid & X264
I'll reencode Superman - The Movie as it is the movie with the most obvious blocking and submit the activity log. Are the settings onthe Advanced tab independent of the setting of the DeBlock slider on the Picture Settings tab? If not, what should the DeBlock slider on the Picture Settings tab be se...

DeBlocking Xvid & X264
I am very pleased with Handbrake especially its ability to keep the audio and video in sync and would like to learn more about how to use the advanced settings to improve the quality of my movies. I have encoded movies using both Xvid and X264 and the X264 movies seem have more of a problem with blo...

STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION Encoding from DVD/VIDEO_TS
I am using HandBrake 0.9.3 and getting a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION exception when trying to encode a movie from a DVD/VIDEO_TS folder. My activity log is attached below. The audio stream which is defined as "Unknown (AC3)" on the movie with the problem while the movies I have encoded success...
