When generating a query with no destination, you still get the warning - but perhaps the creation of the query could be stopped or nothing could be generated? I also found that I couldn't update preferences: 1) Select iPod Hi-Rez 2) Change width to 361 3) Select Presets -> update built-in presets 4)...

I cant answer any of those except E.
The reason is that the css decrypting library won't compile on windows so it is disabled. (This is obviously not the case on linux / mac)
And AFAIK the windows version has never been able to decrypt due to the problem above.

Well I could compile the x64 versions (currently doing them on VS2008 beta2 - which I probably shouldn't if you want release stuff).

And I've also looked into x64 cygwin (after someone mentioned compling on x64 linux) and ended up with the same result as you...

I've been playing around with the GUI for a bit (don't know any c# so it has been interesting) - but it compiled easily for x64 with only 3 warnings; Warning 1 Assembly generation -- Referenced assembly 'System.Data.dll' targets a different processor HandBrakeCS Warning 2 Assembly generation -- Refe...

If the same version of handbrake is installed on both pc's its probably the new computers hardware. A celeron D isn't exactly hi-tech.

Theres not a version change :D .On Vista x64 it identifies as 6.0-WOW64 instead of 5.1 so for it to properly detect that I am using windows I need to change that. Anyway the reason I posed this in the first place was because I got an error when running "make HandbrakeCLI": $ make Handbrake...

Missing libdts in latest cygwin contribbin?

I was trying to build the latest version of handbrake and after my usual changes of "CYGWIN_NT-5.1" to "CYGWIN_NT-6.0-WOW64", I got the following error: ranlib: 'lib/libdts.a': No such file make: *** [app] Error 1 in \contrib\lib\ there was a libdts.a but it was a shortcut to &qu...

Installing .NET won't screw up your computer. It is MS software which is used to create applications.

You could also try mediacoder.
It is a bit complicated but I'm sure some of the people on their forum will help you.

Try with windows xp sp2 compatibility mode enabled. As HB works fine for me in Vista there could be another factor (such as the dvd).

This means you don't have enough RAM to install it. You can get around it but with less than that much RAM it will probably encode very slow.

Windows doesn't strip the encryption because those libraries cause the build to end with errors so cannot be built with them.

The destination can be anywhere you want, but perhaps you would want to put it in the Videos folder in your My Documents.
