Re: I need your opinion: Apple TV vs. Apple TV Legacy?
I actually do see detail improvement in the new preset over the old in those shots, though it is minor. However, it's very difficult to do frame comparisons between 0.9.2 and 0.9.3 simply because so much has changed in x264. it might be that in these frame captures the images look quite similar beca...

Re: Subler (like Muxo, maybe better?)
I've tried removing a subtitle track from and re-adding it it a handbrake-encoded x264-in-m4v file, but I always get an error saying that another app has modified the file since it was opened (if this is true, it certainly hasn't been my doing, I've no other apps doing anything with the file), and t...

Still need an activity log. If it happens under a range of settings, post logs of encodes using numerous different settings. But there can be NO (read: none at all, of any sort, other than asking for an activity log) support without a log, since that's where any and all pertinent information would b...

"what is happening" is also a support question. The Activity Log is necessary for us to figure out what the problem is. "What is happening" is prior to "how do I fix it."

Re: Dolby Headphone Encoding
It's crap? Sad... it sounded like such a good idea. I've been using it with stereophonic music encodes in foobar2000 (running using darwine), and it does make it easier to listen to than when normally using headphones (sound isn't coming from inside my skull), but I haven't managed to find a way to ...

Re: Dolby Headphone Encoding
Hey guys,
I've just been reading up on Dolby Headphone and getting rather excited about the possibilities. Has anyone heard anything about implementations of DH on macs or even encoded directly into the audio track of a video file?
Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread...

Re: about the "best settings" thread
The only thing is, most of the "best settings" in that thread were made with 0.9.2 (or even an earlier version, I don't remember when that thread was started). Anyway, 0.9.3 has different settings that work in different ways, and options such as CRF now work differently. What worked well i...

DTS audio in my headphones
Yesterday on a whim I decided to put my Serenity DVD into my Macbook Pro to see what would happen if I tried listening to the DTS track through my headphones. I know DTS is designed for a surround system, but I don't have one of those. Anyway, compared to the AC3 5.1 track on the DVD, the DTS audio ...

Hey John,
I wanted to test this patch, but clicking on that link sends me to a blank pastebin space. I see no patch code there... Did you remove it for some reason?
Thanks,
Jack

Re: The Dark Knight
If that doesn't work, and there's a similar DRM to the one used on the Wall-E dvds, I'd recommend using either DTOX or the current MacTheRipper 3.0 beta to rip the disk. Try to play the disk in VLC first to figure out which title is the one you want to rip. This dvd will be so popular, it's hard to ...

70 is WAY too high. Seriously, your encode will be huge. Try 62 first, then if you're absolutely sure that you can tell the difference between that and the source, try 64.

Is there a way to set the crop to zero without clicking the arrows and waiting for the numbers to decrement? I'd like to just type in 0 in the four fields, but it doesn't seem possible. You could create a custom preset with no cropping so you'd always have cropping off, but no, there's no quicker w...

How To: transcode mkv to m4v w/o re-encoding
Ok, so this is a pretty hot topic on this forum and all over the internet; there are countless instances on forums of people wondering how to transcode their mkv files into mp4 or m4v without re-encoding the video and/or while preserving AC3 audio. Though complicated, I have come up with a functiona...

Re: mp4 wont go into itunes
You need to change the file extension from .mp4 to .m4v. Apple products do not support .mp4, while just about everything does support .m4v. There should be an option in the preferences to have handbrake automatically do this when encoding into the mp4 container. For this encode, though, you just hav...

The Constant Quality preset use 59% CRF, doesn't it? Isn't that pretty high for HD video? You might be getting unnecessarily large encodes. 14 gigs is quite a bit...

First off, you need to update you built-in presets. Deux Six Quatre was trashed a while back. Better to use the newer presets tuned to work with newer x264 encoder versions, etc.

Also, the AMD Sempron isn't exactly the most powerful processor. Using one of those, you cannot expect much faster encodes than that. x264 (which I assume is what you were using) is a very advanced but also resource-heavy encoder.

Have you tried uninstalling Handbrake using something like appzapper to delete all associated files, then reinstalling it?
