Handbrake does not use your "current settings" for batches. It reverts to the saved copy of the settings for anything past the current file. Whether this makes sense or not depends on your reasons for changing the settings.
Batches are created from the saved version of the settings.

Re: Adding encode duration to file naming
Do you have an accurate way of determining the length before the encode is complete, without someone typing it in? Reading a part of a video does not definitively determine the length of it in time. The file name is set when the job is created, not when it's done, so setting the name before that is ...

Re: Subtitle problem
Is your problem that the subtitles have shadows (which is based on the fact that your display system generates them) or that your system is crashing? The log shows that the encode did not complete, and it reported an error in the subtitle stream just before it ended. Which are we supposed to be look...

"Just nothing at all" can mean a lot of things in the install process. I've had it when the system decides it doesn't like how the file was copied. And I've had it when the system decides that it thinks a file was POSSIBLY a virus, and hides it. Are there ANY error messages to help decide ...

Re: Episodic Series Output File Naming
Handbrake doesn't know the contents, other than the file name. If the file name contains the season and episode number, your inclusion of the title would show that. But it can't detect it within the file itself, and it doesn't break the title down into parts.

Re: 1.6 won't read a DVD; 1.5.1 worked fine
As mentioned, handbrake has not included ripping stuff for a dozen years now, because it was part of a different project. It can USE ripping code if found, but it doesn't include it. Even when it's found, it doesn't always work or provide "perfect reads". There are a number of tools that w...

Re: Subtitle settings for foreign films - What is best practice?
The practice would be to enable the subtitle in question, and burn it in. The questionable part of it is, "Which subtitle NUMBER is 'english' and is it a full subtitle track, or only the parts that are non-English?' Your example has two English subtitles, for different reasons; one for each pos...

Re: Custom Present Creation doesn't work properly
Are you reading directly from the copy-protected DVD, or through something that is removing the copy protection first? A lot of people add a third-party utility to read from DVDs, then are surprised when the new install does not recognize their forgotten 3-party code.

Re: Emulate the compression of this movie for my videos? testing settings
The people who created the copy allowed the compression utility to encode into it the commands necessary. They did not use handbrake, so the command line is not the same.
If it's important to emulate them, you would want to use the same commands on the same program.

Re: How to get correct title names of DVD titles/episodes in filenames?
Since it takes 3rd-party software to have handbrake "read" a DVD, it would take 3rd-party software to automatically name files based on what that 3rd-party software did.
So, probably not.

Handbrake WILL open empty, it just doesn't like it. Hit escape when it's prompting you to select a file if you're going to do something like this. They changed the behavior to ask-on-open because most people didn't want to do "weird things", like change the configuration on load. I'd prefe...

The file name is set when the file is loaded , according to the rules you gave handbrake. When you change the rules, reload the file , so the new rules will be used. Don't reload, and you've got the old rules used to create the file name... Looking at the Windows section, I do not see a previous mes...

Re: Subtitles for MKV encoded file don't display when playing via a Smart TV
TVs generally want the subtitles FLAGGED as "forced". MakeMKV does not do that except in certain very specific situations. Handbrake does not do generally. I've found that to get a TV to display subtitles, they have to be modified with mkvtoolnix's editor to set both "default" an...

You can encode a video without compressing it, but generally you do it to make it smaller (compressing). 99.99% the same thing.

Re: Formatting on mp4 changes the file to title..
As I understand the Roku, it reads the title from the file being played, avoiding reading the TRACK title. So you have to make sure the encode includes the title IN the file, which can be a problem with early versions of handbrake.

Re: handbrake Shuts down
License for MakeMKV is sometimes tricky. The basic license for the download expires after 60 days. There is a message on the forum (sticky, actually) that has the current key in it. For BD and UHD, you have to enter the password after 30 days to re-enable it. Some people actually change their system...

Re: handbrake Shuts down
What rollin_eng said. Handbrake, by itself, is not a DVD/BD/UHD ripping program, because it has no decryption code in it. So you have to add a program to do the decryption. The DLL approach you tried covers 80% or more of DVDs, with no BD or UHD support. It has little in the way of diagnostics when ...

If you can address them, (official) handbrake can read them. Just remember that handbrake does not include decryption, so you will have to provide a way to decrypt any disks you're trying to feed it. If you're using some version of it that includes decryption, you will have to ask the distributor of...

Re: MKV converting to AAC instead of FLAC.
Your log does not show what choices handbrake made, just that your source had PCM encoding for the audio. This is where the encode log is helpful, to see how the choice was made.
Do you have the encode log? That normally shows what choices are enabled and are made for each audio channel.

Re: Forced Subtitles Removed by Handbrake
You asked for an MKV (with PGS subtitles) to be converted to an MP4 (not compatible with PGS subtitles). Handbrake burned the selected track in to the video, selecting ONLY the subtitles that were tagged as "forced". Typical MKV files with subtitles, ripped from video sources, do NOT have ...
