FWIW... I don't have an AppleTV however I did rip a PAL DVD with MacTheRipper and used Handbrake to convert videos for my iPod. I set the FPS to 29.97 and they play fine on the computer, with QT, in iTunes and on my iPod.

Baggss... re: your guideline for iPod...

I've tried setting up a TV series according to the guideline in your sig. for such using HB 8.5b1 using except that my show is 320x176 instead of 320x240 as in your example and I realize your guideline is written for the previous MediaFork, however I've never been able to get this to work on any ver...

Video Bitrate Question...

I've been trying to get files for my 80GB iPod just the standard iPod size of 320x176 using a video bitrate of 1400 and audio bitrate of 128 to see if I can't optimize the quality a bit more using the newest release of Handbrake. However the finished files always have a video bitrate of only about 1...

I did read the thread on upcoming features and did not see these... if I missed something feel free to tell me to bug off... also I'm just making a "humble" request... no pressure as I don't know how to code, nor do I know anyone I can volunteer... I still would very much like to be able t...

Well, I've hit on a happy medium for now I suppose... it seems it's still an ongoing issue with Apple/iPod/H.264... some combination, whatever. I still have a problem with MediaFork "skipping" on some files. Just for a few seconds the video will "stutter"... it seems less likely ...

I tried an episode using Mpeg4 instead of H.264 and unfortunately it looked just as bad... I thought I'd try the same settings for resolution at 368x208 and left the audio at 128... but bumped the video bitrate a bit up to 1500kbps. Also I used HandBrake-0.7.1a2-UB because I've been having some trou...

*lol** Well... at the moment I've got a 27" 15 year old Sony that still works so well... it's just not a priority with me. I'd rather have a new computer... ;)

When it eventually does break completely I'll see what I end up with...

Yes, definitely... H.264 and 2-pass. So you think the native 320x176 but just the higher bitrate? I'll give that a try... I've found that it looks better if ones watches these things with the iPod's widescreen turned Off although I'd rather not do that. My reasoning for making them somewhat bigger w...

Well... all in all MediaFork does turn out a brighter file than Handbrake IMO... so I guess what I REALLY need is for someone to find a substitute for Apple's H.264 decoder... :?

Oh well... wishful thinking... 8)

Well... I tried using settings of 624x352 at 1500kbps on 2 of the most troublesome episodes and there was an improvement that might be worth it to me for my favourite TV show if it weren't for a couple of things... 1. It takes 6hrs. to do one 44min. episode on my PB G4 1.5GHz... for that much time I...

Thanks... I will give that a try on a particulary bad episode tonight... I'm interested in files for my iPod however if it does make a distinct difference then it may be worth to me for some things. I remember hearing something about Quicktime as well, to do with .mp4 and gamma I think? I'll let you...

Blocky Artifacts On iPod...

This has always been an "issue" with me, I've just been putting up with it but now with MediaFork 0.8.0b1 I thought I'd ask about it again... see if anyone else still notices it or has had better luck getting rid of it. I ripped Season 1 of Supernatural which tends to be a bit on the dark ...

the problem with the memory leaking code is that performance seriously drops so if you have a 2hr movie you basically have to give up because it gets to a point where its only doing 1~2fps when it starts off at 100. Thats how serious the issue actually is. It may not be as bad on osx/linux but mp4 ...

Yes, but it seems to be working quite well in spite of that. Also I find that Azureus "leaks" just as badly, at least on my machine even though the program works well enough. I've never really seen anyone complain about that one though I haven't really gone looking... ;)

OK... I cast my "yes" vote over there... but just wondering how does this release compare to HandBrake-0.7.1a2-UB?

I've been using that one for awhile now, without too much trouble.

Now, the iPod. Ugh. I'm VERY much in the IHB camp when it comes to the iPod. I was glad titer made a purpose built app on the back of HB to cater to the masses of clowns that will download ANYTHING to get some video on their iPod. I don't think we should cater to the (very recent) masses in respect...

A Couple Of Things...

I still find that Handbrake sometimes turns out a video that's a bit on the dark side and maybe on the quiet side. I'd love to be able to set the brightness and contrast and perhaps the volume as well. One can do this with MPEG Streamclip however I find the program is no where as easy to use as Hand...
